2013 stronger, faster and farther

August 30

Run
  • 35m 01s
  • 4.00 miles
  • 08m 45s /Mi

Garmin worked for the whole thing so here are splits:
1. 9:11
2. 8:53
3. 8:32
4. 8:28

Working from home today so I decided to sneak out before it got too hot.  Started rusty but felt good after 1st mile.  This puts me over 180 miles for month which officially makes this highest run volume month ever (that record should stand for less than 30 days.)

August 29

Run
  • 1h 30m 33s
  • 10.00 miles
  • 09m 03s /Mi

out 45:24
back 45:09

ez effort git-r-done 10 miler.  Negative split by 15 seconds.  I guess you call that a steady effort.  Body feels pretty good with all these miles, but my feet are getting a little sore.

Track session that was on track and on over on hill repeats hills.  2 mile repeats felt good.  Bit of confidence boost for the weekend.

out 29:56 (9:12 pace)

I just realized I have more running miles this month than I have bike miles for the whole year.  Pretty crazy. Little sad. Add 7-8 more miles to that total tonight.

Well I dialed my goals back a little on this one because of number of factors: fatigue had really set in after last week's 20 miler; it was going to be much hotter and humid that it has been last two weeks, even with a somewhat early start; going an additional two miles over last week.  Plan was to go easy pace with about 9:15-9:20 pace out and pretty even on way back with a 9:10-9:15 pace on return with a negative split and overall pace about 9:15.  So, once again very pleased with this one because I hit my targets.  Amazing thing is I am pretty much doing that without Garmin.  I use the same trail for all my long runs (Glacier trail) and pretty much know where my mile marks are.  However, on real long ones not sure on marks for miles 10 and 11.  So, since my Garmin only lasts about 5 miles now, I turn it on at mile 9 to get me to the turn around and then keep it on until it dies.  So to hold my goal paces without a crutch is big deal for me.  Went through 8 bottles of water (little light), 4 servings of shot bloks (every 45 min) and 3 servings of enduralytes (2 every hour) Everything felt great until about 18 and then it was primarily the heat that got me.  Pace did not really slow, but effort was getting harder, although last mile felt a little better.  Again, quite please with where I am, little more than month out from race day.
