2013: My Second Season

This was our triathlon club's Valley View Hill Challenge. This was the first of a monthly summer series. We all meet at the bottom of a 2 mile climb and they clock us to the top. There were 14 of us and we started 15 seconds apart. I averaged 12.8 the first time and then 12.4 the second. Not happy with my results. But I had not been on my bike in a week and I didn't feel too well yesterday. Still finished first of the girls (all 3 of us, lol) so that's incentive to improve. At the end of summer they give awards to the king and queen of the mountain. Time to practice for next month's!

So I'm starting to use my HRM more often.  Trying to figure out my max hr.  So far the highest I've gotten up to is 184.

The shin continues to be an issue.  I have not run at all since April 15th.  I was hoping that would help but no such luck.  It is now throbbing constantly whether I'm sitting, standing, sleeping, swimming, etc.  I still don't have the adequate insurance/ finances to see a doctor so continuing to play the waiting game.  It's now been 7 months, though, and the frustration is really getting to me.  As much as I love triathlons it is the running that I am absolutely passionate about and to have stayed away from it for so long now is just hard.

I got my new wetsuit! It's an Orca Pflex sleeveless. I love it. It felt like it was choking me when I first tried it on but in the water I didn't notice it. So fast! I never want to swim without it.

Hi, everyone!  I have not fallen off the face of the earth:-)  My in-laws are in town from Ireland and I have loaned my computer to them for the duration of their visit.  They're out for coffee now so a quick check-in.  I've been training and will catch up with my workouts on here after they leave Weds. night.

Quick update- still no running  but walking fast on the tm and trying to get ready for another running attempt.  Some strength training, a couple swims including my first OW practice.  Might need some work there- was not planning on the panic that comes from seeing some massive black fish in the depths of the murky water.  Wetsuit arrived today in the mail and after trying on DH's the other day at the lake I am in awe of the difference it makes.  Can't wait to try it on.

Did a group bike ride with a racing team and they just about killed me.  I only hung on for 7-8 miles of their 30 mile ride.  They were almost all guys and not happy at all about having me there.  A little pissed about that...

Anyway, I will catch up in a couple days and can't wait to read inspires and see how we're all doing!  Gotta go!!!

OWS first attempt. DH and I went to a large mountain lake- Cave Run Lake. First, I swam without the wetsuit. I was scared to get too far from shore- just being cautious. With the wetsuit I had more confidence and was amazed at the efficiency and buoyancy. I did fall apart, however, when I noticed a school of extremely large, shark-shaped fish swimming in the murky water below me. That was unnerving. I didn't expect that so might have to get used to it.
