January 31

I have completed my whole30.  There may be some minor changes but I will continue the paleo lifestyle and aim for 85-90% compliance.  I lost 7 lbs. and a number of inches, though, I failed to take measurements before starting this adventure.  My pants fit better and my tummy is a bit flatter.  I am happy!  I will return to crossfit tomorrow and see what I can do.  I still have a little tenderness in my back and right wrist but I will limit my activities today.  Nothing is really painful.

Today I hope to finish up all the work on the presentations and talk my way through them a couple of times.  I am modifying two existing talks so I am and will be familiar with them with only some minor changes and additions to meet the prescribed titles I submitted.  I wish I had come to this earlier but it's all good and will work out just fine.  This is a bigger gig than first thought so the stress level has ramped up a bit.  But I will be fine and get through it. Then I only have two more events to get through to clear my plate of outside obligations.  I WILL not add more to my plate.  There is a chance that I will be voted in for the local branch board of trustees but I will just have to wait and see on that. Plus I am still a member of a committee for the national organization but it's limited with only a few conference calls and a little info flow.  So, I guess I do have a couple of "extra" things, but it will be very manageable once we get past the meeting programming and one more speaking gig.  Ha, Ha, Ha!!!  Who am I kinding?!  I will try really hard not to voluneteer for anything new!

Breakfast: roasted veggies and a boiled egg.
Lunch: paleo pad thai from Well Fed. Delicious!!!
Supper: roasted chicken with turnip greens with garlic and either roasted sweet potatos or cumin carrot fries (chicken is already in the oven sitting on a bed of celery, carrots, onions)

January 30

Well, my day started with a trip to the eye dr. I needed a new prescription.  Dropped $925!  It makes me crazy how expensive my lenses alone are but I am quite limited visually without correction and I don't want to wear coke bottles.  Anyway, they will be trendy and great and I will be able to read and see.

I am working on the presentations and getting something accomplished.  It's going to be close!! I leave for Minneapolis on Thursday.  I have a plan so let's see if it works out.

Maybe a little workout today, on the trainer, maybe.  I will head back to the gym on Wednesday.  No visible bruising, just tender to the touch.  My wrists are less sore today as well, but my right one hurts with pulling/pushing/lifting so not quite back to normal.

Paleo day 30!!!!
Breakfast: grilled chicken tender with mashed cauliflower
lunch: beef panang
supper: roast beef and veggies, collard greens, smothered okra (leftovers from yesterdays supper plus the okra)

No workout.  But I did manage to get the presentations lined out and ready for tomorrows big push.  It dawned on me, while pulling together another talk, that the audience may not be a bunch of research techs.  I am revamping my vet tech program presentation for this group only having to add a few more details to make it work for my needs.  Whew!  Oh, I also learned today that they have over 700 people registered for this meeting.  I don't believe there will be 700 in my talks but it might be a great deal more than I anticipated

January 29

It's Sunday so it's cleaning and cooking day.  I have three loads of wash going; I am ahead of the dryer by two loads.  Many things need to be hung dry so I washed ahead and got them out since it's stunning outside today.  I have cleaned all the greens, both collards and turnips.  I added the actual turnips to the beef roast that I just took out of the oven.  I also added butternut, onion, and carrots.  I also made a batch of beef panang with veggies, grilled some chicken tenders on the Foreman and prepped zucchini "noodles" for a batch of grilled chicken and veggies with sunshine sauce.  Some of this might get put in the freezer because I leave on Thursday for MN and the boys will most likely not eat that much of it.  Some of the greens will just be good ol' southern style collards but I am thinking about a soup for the turnip greens with sweet potato and chicken.  Still thinking about that.

My wrists still hurt today.  I have been cooking and cleaning so I am not wearing the braces today.  I might need to put them on once I get some of the stuff done today.  Pulling hurts and lifting is tough but I just have to watch how I do things.  My back and hip is still tender but no visible bruising.  I am surprised by that but happy to not have a big purple and green butt cheek!  I will not do crossfit this week but still try to do a little something at the house, maybe even ride the trainer.  The sad part is that I will probably be out of the box for almost a week and half thanks to upcoming travel.  I will be home through Wednesday then out until Saturday, home Sunday, then leave for OKC on Monday.  I think I will be out until Wed/Thurs depending on how it gets set up.  Ugh.  I might get to play with CitySky at her box so it may work out ok for one box workout.

A new job is needed.  So, Mon-Wed is presentation work only.  Then I must find and pack some warm clothes for MN.

Paleo day 29
Breakfast: 1 slice of bacon and a fried egg, 2 cups of black coffee
Lunch: Thai beef panang, with carrots, cabbage, onion, zucchini over spaghetti squash
Supper: roasted beef with winter veggies and mashed cauliflower.

January 28

We went fishing today.  It was too windy but we enjoyed getting out there. I wore splints on both wrists which really helped. Hubs did most of the fishing and I bird watched.  I am sore today but not as bad as I thought it would be.  My wrists hurt the most.  It's a tad painful to walk around a bit but it feels more like a big charlie horse in my upper glute.  I will continue the splints just to keep from irritating my wrists anymore over the weekend.

Paleo day 28
Breakfast: fajita meat scramble.  leftovers from dinner last night
Lunch: boiled egg, more scramble stuff
Supper:  3:45 pm split a meal with hubs at a restaurant in Galveston. grilled chicken with crab, crawfish tails, shrimp sauce with refried beans, rice, pico and guacamole. He ate the beans and rice, shrimp with the tortillas and I had the chicken, pico, guac. I removed much of the sauce but this was a little cheat from the whole 30, but not much.  He finished the chicken that I couldn't eat.

We are out tonight for cards with friends.

January 27

Lots of power point work to complete but there is positive progress.  Yesterday was busy with other things that needed to be done around here so after crossfit, I will finish this up and begin the practice part to get this down.

Yesterday, this thought came to me while running errands; never again will I be afraid to be my true self and live my true life.  I am a very communal human and choose to live a communal life.  I truly thrive on helping other people, being involved in group activities, and spending time with people who have the same ideas.  Many times, I put this idea of self on the shelf to appease others or to just get by, but I am no longer willing to do that.  After I complete the tasks that I have on my plate, my mission will be to find a job.  I want to be free to pursue the things that make me happy.

Paleo day 27
Breakfast: 1 1/2 slices of bacon, fried egg. 2 cups of black coffee, 1/4 avocado
Lunch: smothered okra, small stick of sausage, avocado
Supper: fajitas with guac and pico.

So crossfit went a little wrong today.  We were doing toes to bar on the minute.  We were up to eight and as I attempted the eighth one, I came off the bar and fell flat on my back on top of the bumper plates I was using to get up to the bar.  Big scare for all of us but I am ok. Bruised but not broken.  I was taken to the ER for xrays. My left wrist is in a splint and I am really stiff but overall I don't feel too bad.  Tomorrow may be a different story.  Time off, probably some PT then back at it.

Back to a regular schedule for a few days!  Crossfit at 10 am, then some errands, then home to put together the last of the presentations for the trip to MN.  These are hanging over me like a guillotine!  I have 1 week to get them done, practiced, and ready for public viewing.  I will ge there it will just eat into my home life a little.

My daughter is moving back in! She quit her job, this is a wise move on her part, but it means she can't pay her rent, so back to mama's.  It's upset the flow a bit but we will all just have to adjust.  She has an interview coming up so we are all keeping our fingers crossed that she will finally get a day job and get something going for herself.  In the meantime, we will have to work out the details and make this a smooth transition for all.  Ugh, just another hump to get over!

Paleo day 26
Breakfast: 2 cups black coffee, 2 strips of bacon, fried egg (double yoker), a couple of tbsp of avocado
Lunch: 1/2 baby chicken, avocaco with salsa
snack: playing with food, I am attempting to make a "almond joy" with paleo only food stuffs.  first attempt, interesting but not quite there.  so my snack was coconut, almonds with a cocoa sauce I created. I am using an old recipe for no bake cookies as the road map.
Supper: pork chop, steamed cauliflower, smothered okra

January 25

Sleep was not so sound last night.  Peri-Menopause symptoms are back and hot flashes woke me over and over again.  Ugh!  The good news, last day out on the road.  We have one appointment this morning then homebound.  Our second appointment for the day canceled on Monday so we'll get an early jump on the return trip.  The bad news, it's storming North and east of us so it might be an interesting drive.

Yoga today, maybe.  If not, I hope to get a workout in when I get home, either at the box or in the house.  Despite clean eating while out, I feel a bit heavy today.  I think I am eating too much, especially the last meal of the day.  Portion control is the biggest issue for me, so I just need to keep that in mind and pay closer attention to how my plate looks.  I need to also just ask for a to go box. I can always eat the leftovers for breakfast since most of the hotels I stay at have fridge/microwave.  Some tweaking for the travel routine, but I am getting there.

Paleo day 25
Breakfast: 2 cups black coffee, 1 cup chicken salad, boiled egg.
Lunch: smoked chicken quarter with green beans and a small salad, lemon juice for dressing
Supper: 1/2 baby chicken with curried veggies, turnips greens with turnips, yummy and a very appropriate portion.  It's good to be home!
