1.5 mile assessment run today for the school. Really happy with my time. My goal for the end of the school (we do another fitness assessment the last day of school), is to have it at sub-10:30.

Also weighed in for school today, and I hit my goal weight: 175! I'm hoping to lose a few more lbs while I'm out here too. Would be great to get into the sub-170 range. Haven't been there since boot camp in 1996.

Officially registered for Cajun Man! Can't wait for this race. It's a .5 mile swim, 20 bike, 5k run. I'm going to be joining masters as soon as I get back home in late June, so hopefully that 2 months of swim training will help get me through the swim.

Yeah, it feels good to be actually registered for something. Cool

Still keeping the red square for today. My cough is still pretty nasty. The run in the cold air yesterday probably didn't help. And another run today probably won't help much either, but I am trying to pretend like it will!

-----

Good easy run tonight on base. Lots of good trails. I took the trails with the easier hills.

Off to California!

----

Finally got here. It was a long day. Traffic leaving San Fran was HORRIBLE. Got checked in and started unpacking. For some reason, I felt really bummed out. Guess I'm just not looking forward to spending the next 5 weeks away from the family, especially Ethan. But I've been through this many times before, for much longer. So I just need to HTFU and get my stuff done out here. So I decided to go for a run to check out the base. There is a great trail, and the hills are MONSTER! I'm used to flat-ass workouts, so this is going to be a change of pace. They aren't long trails, maybe 3 miles or so, but that's good for running, and on the bike, I can do repeats. Can't wait till it gets out here.

While I'm looking forward to some good training out here and a little change of pace, I just want to get it done and get back home.

Ah, I think I've almost done everything I need to for my trip. Work is settled, I'm almost all packed, just need to take care of a few errands today, most important of which is taking my son to see INDIANA JONES!!! I remember when my dad took me to see it, and how much fun it was, so hopefully he'll enjoy it like I did.

Anyways, my cough was horrible last night. To the point that my head was pounding because of it. It's not as bad this morning, but I think it's only a matter of time. If I can get to the gym today, might try to get a short run in or possibly a swim. We'll see.

--------

Got in a good run today. This run felt surprisingly good. My breathing during the run was fantastic, my RPE was pretty low considering the pace. I was playing with my stride a little bit, and discovered that if I open it up a bit, my pace quickens with little change in my RPE. It was fun testing it out. I ran on the indoor gym track because it was raining and I figured the cool air would help my lungs. I was able to really monitor my pace closely, and I can definitely see an improvement when I widened my stride. Can't wait to get out to Cali and try it on the road.
