Well today it was a crazy day. I did my regular long swim as I was feeling better and later afternoon I ended up racing a winter duathlon as 2K run - 12k x-country skiing - 2K run, but the kicker is: I never x-country ski before today! My coach is great and a pro so he gave me a crash course which of course didn't help me much. After posting a fast run on the fast 2K run (5:45min) I entered transition on 2nd place just to drop like 10 places while taking forever to put those dam boots and skis. I began my suffer fest on skis *trying* to move and avoid my ass falling on the cold snow. We had to complete a 6K 2 loop which I did after falling a few times, battling to climb a few hills and skate skiing more like someone been shocked every 2 seconds. I completed it on 37 min good enough for 3th from last place ;) I did my second 2K run on 5:45min and managed to pass some people. Needless to say I didn't post any records but I did have lots of fun. Now I have pain in muscles I wasn't aware existed and my arms/shoulders/back are killing me (add the swim this AM + the race this PM = sore body today ouch!) There was a 2nd race same distance but I had to bail cuz I would have ended up trashed after attempting to complete the ski course again, although I wanted to run again. Anyway, I had fun on my x-country ski debut but I have to accept that the race was also my retirement one! My coach ended up winning both races to win the whole thing, and I learned that been fit doesn't mean you can power through a technique sport like that...

February 23

7:00AM - not as sick as yesterday or at least a feel a bit better but still sick nevertheless. I'll ponder later on whether it is wise to get in a training session or not. What sucks though is that I am going to miss my goal of swimming 60,000 Yds and running a minimum of 10 hrs through February. Oh well, I'll better focus on getting back to normal cuz I really need to crank up my training for March & April if I am planning to have a decent race at FL 70.3! For now, I am sitting here at my office eating a bagel and surfing BT ;)

February 22

8:30AM - Oh man I am sick as a dog, coughing, chest congestion and I think ever fever, but my boss and another person are out of the office so I have to suck it up and pretend that I am working. It seems no training for me today which sucks but oh well, whachagonado. I am telling nothing good can come out of a crazy weekend at Vegas :)  BTW, I procrastinated big time and didn’t registered for Hyannis which the way I feel right seems to be a good thing. But I sent an email to the RD pretending I live in Mexico and as an elite mex triathlete if I could get a spot... let’s see if it works ;)

11:00AM - < sarcasm on > what? 2:30 hrs after and I still feel like sh!t? I was hoping to feel better withinn a few hours! < sarcasm off >  Duuuuudddeeee, I want to go home so bad it is not even funny... I already managed to do some work but I just crave to get home and crawl into my bed. Although 30 min ago I had the crazy idea to go running but I quickly ditch it... I think I am going to close my office door at lunch and take a nap under the desk ala George Constanza!

3:30PM - guess what, it ils almost 3:30 and I still feel sick! LMAO At least I am having fun with it no? Oh man, I am done, I can take this any longer and since I didn't get in a nap under my desk I am out to my place to eat chicken soup, watch Seifeld and call my mommy cuz she always knows what to say when I am sick!  These are the days that I don't like been single as having a special someone to pamper me would be nice... BUT then again, I prefer to train anytime, anywhere for as long and with anyone I want :D

8:30PM - throat... hurt... lots... can't... stop... coughing... but I am not whining, well not anymore, just udpating my health status ;-) I'll take a pound of meds and go to bed, hopefully I'll be feeling better tomorrow. It would be nice to get a trainer ride but we'll see.

500s time = 1st 6:53 (1:23 avg), 2nd 6:45 (1:21 avg) 3rd 6:20 (1:16 avg)

8:30AM - Ok, I am feeling a bit better than yesterday but still my chest and throat are killing me (sort of like when you have a bad cold) but all caused by the @#$% reflux. As I mentioned yesterday, I know it is my fault for ditching my diet for a weekend but I am very surprised in a bad way of how long it had taken me to feel better by following a super strict diet and changing my lifestyle and within a few days I went back to feel sick. Oh well, at least I am still kicking and able to somehow train :)

1:40PM - Managed to get in my 3000 swim and actually it was pretty good considering I am not feeling 100% One of the things I've learned about this swim focused month is that the time I've spent in the water had develop not only this killer endurance hence it takes a lot more for me to break down when swimming tired, but also I’ve developed this feel & timing for my stroke. I can tell when I am not paying attention to my form, when the form is breaking as my arms get tired and when everything click and I just cruise lap after lap. It is a very cool sensation as now I think of 500s reps as just another set! If you can devote an entire month to swimming more, DO IT! You won’t regret it and don’t give the: “I need to focus on my bike/run” cuz it is just an excuse ;)

7:40PM - I am not sure if I am feeling "so so" because of just the reflux or I am getting also a cold. It is hard to tell as I get similar symptoms, oh well I am taking a preemptive attack on both. I was supposed to do a marathon pace run this PM but the roads are very icey and I figured if I am indeed getting a cold why push the body hard now. Overall it was a good easy run

Run
  • 40m
  • 4.70 miles
  • 08m 30s /Mi

Guilty pace run. didn't push at all because of asthma and because the roads were very wet and slippery...

Swim
  • 35m
  • 2000.00 yards
  • 01m 45s /100 yards

couldn't really follow work out, just not feeling good. I did 500EZ as WU and 2x750 straight all EZ

9:00AM - must... get... back... to... training... today...

11:30AM - ugghh not feeling myself today. I am not sure if I am still tired from the lack of sleep, maybe still hangover from my drinking marathon (OMG, I almost throw up just thinking about it) or if I am coming down with a cold as everyone on the plan seemed to be sick on my way back. BTW, how funny is to receive an email from a ‘friend’ I apparently met in Vegas and I have no recollection of it! That’s among of the many things I can’t seem to remember, but at least I didn’t get marry (or I am hoping I didn’t :)) but I am still afraid of checking my bank account balance…

12:40PM - pathetic attempt at swimming. I am definitely not feeling good and of course just realized why. Dam reflux! Of course it is my entire fault as I can't expect to party my a$$ off, eat like crap (two big NO NOs for my GERD diet) and not to affect me right. Like 15 min into the swim I began to feel the reflux induced asthma and by min 25 I got that nasty bonk feeling. It isn’t a bunk per say but it is how it feels cuz I just can't breathe properly. I packed my stuff and came back to work. I CAN'T forget I have to deal with this situation every day and unfortunately it isn't something that will go away. So now I'll have to deal with the consequences but hopefully it won’t set my training back (stupid stupid stupid)

8:00PM - I managed to get in a very easy run, but the GERD induced asthma is actig up on me again *sigh* I am back to my diet full speed and taking my meds although I hate taking it. Anyway, not feeling money today so I am going to bed early, I hope tomorrow things look better :)

February 19

Home sweet home! OMG what a crazy city, if you are trying to become a competitive athlete Vegas is NOT a good place to be :)  All in all it was very fun and awesome to hang out with friends but it wasn't that good for my training, wallet and patience. Since it was the NBA all star game weekend it was SUPER full. (of course we did't know cuz we don't follow that) Most people we talked around told us they never seen Vegas that packed before and of course since I am not into that kind of stuff or crowd (NBA stars, Hollywood celebrities and lots of freaking "I think I am the sh!t" type of crowd) it made the trip an endurance event. There were lines everywhere! Just to give and idea we spent 2:30 hrs waiting on line for a cab at the airport when we got in and 2 hrs on line to check in for our flight back and of course we and many people lost our flights and we ended up catching the next available flight (8:00PM Vegas time) and I got back here 4:30AM this morning (instead of the original 7:00PM planned). I am going to sleep and eat and hopefully go for a run later today... For my athletes -> I'll send you training plans/workouts this PM I promise!

NADA... well nothing good for my training anyway ;)
