DU RR
1st run ouch, bike double ouch, 2nd run triple ouch :) It is the 1st time I race a DU and man they are hard! But it was fun nevertheless, I always enjoy pushing myself very hard, it is like a fun pain. I am very happy about the race, my time and result considering the months I couldn’t train, the little cycling miles I have and the 3 hard training days I had in a row. For the runs, I managed to avg 5:20s for both and although I was certainly working hard, there is no doubt in my mind that on fresh legs I could have run a bit faster. So my run is back and that is freaking cool! :)
As for my bike, well it was a tough day. I came into T1 on 2nd place but I lost 4 or 5 places. Besides the fact that the guys that passed me are stronger cyclists, I knew it was going to be tough as my legs felt heavy as rocks and were totally fried. I couldn’t push near my power threshold and only could avg 245 watts although I did try a few times but couldn’t hold the pace for long (my FTP is around 260-265 watts so I was nowhere near). Still with less than 900 miles so far this year under my legs my layoff, I am pretty encouraged of what I might be able to accomplish this year once I am back in cycling form. I should have brought my racing setup (wheels and helmet), maybe that might have helped a bit... NOT! LOL ;) I finished on 56:37 min good enough for 5th OA
Anyway, I will focus 100% on the next 14 days to get myself as ready as possible to get a good race at FL, get the Clearwater slot and then work very hard on my cycling!

uuffff, tough day. I did my race rehearsal session for FL 70.3 but it was tougher than expected 1st because I didn't follow my own advice which is to rehearse everything from the day before including dinner, sleep early, etc. A friend is still in town and we went out for dinner and didn't have my usual pre race food and went to bed kind of late. Also I advice to take it easy the day before so one can push a race pace on relative fresh legs but since the weather was so nice yesterday I just couldn’t resist riding outside (plus I rode kind of hard also yesterday) ANYWAY, the swim was a bit challenging cuz my reflux was acting up due to the dinner last night. The bike was cool as I was riding fast but my legs began to die on the 2nd loop cuz I am tired from yesterday. But the nutrition on the bike worked great and I felt awesome on that side. The run was great and I felt strong but the last 5 min at holding 6min pace was def challenging again tired from two days of somehow intense riding.
Now I’ll rest and hope to get the legs a bit rested for tomorrow for the DU which will be another intense session and since I was told that the field is going to be pretty competitive it will hurt a lot for sure :) Originally my plan was to race the du as a C race and focus on holding a hard pace but that was about it, but know will all this fast guys racing my competitive side is itching to push even more. I wish I wouldn’t done two hard sessions on back to back days to be a bit rested for tomorrow but I have to remind myself that my goal is Timberman with FL 70.3 in between and I really should be concern to be fast then and not tomorrow… oh well, whatever happens happens…

Last night I signed for a 2 day power analysis seminar presented by training peaks and the speaker will be Hunter Allen coauthor of Training and racing with power. Although I have a pretty good understanding of how to use a PM for training and racing I figured investing in enhancing my understanding and training knowledge would be great for my athletes. Plus you get to ride with Allen the next day and analyzed your data which it should be fun. Also next Tuesday I am meeting with Dede Griesbaur (Women Pro & 2nd at CA 70.3) in hopes to get my swim times faster and competitive! Finally I just finished an online course on exercise physiology and A it :) I am going to take another on exercise nutrition starting next Wednesday!
Nice steady ride. legs felt really strong
