Operation Fitness Reactivate

September 19

I took Milo in for another follow-up appt yesterday afternoon. On Monday he only had some edema in his eye, which shouldve been easily taken care of by his body.  When we brought him in yesterday, the vet doc took a look at it, and now his upper eye has the infection and is melting.  We have him on 3 different anti-biotics so whatever he has is pretty nasty and resistant to the current meds.  Obviously, this is not good and he is basically back to where he was before the surgery (but not currently that bad).  The vet has been awesome and was pissed that this is happening to Milo.  Really, truely angry that the infection returned.  We got the right vet to the job, thats for sure.  He didnt charge us for the two rechecks, and basically "smuggled" us two different meds to Milo.  Some anti-inflammatory drops on Monday and some 5 mL bottle of "the mother of all anti-biotics" that wouldve run us $250.  Doc took a culture of Milo's eye stuff and hopefully something grows in the dish so we can see what we're dealing with here.  We wont have results on that until tomorrow sometime.  For how fast he went downhill with the upper part of his eye, I just hope we have enough time to hold off the infection.  His cornea is already 1/2 melted...again.  In the mean time, we're hitting the drops as much as we can in hopes that the infection is sensative to the new antibiotic drops - even getting up at 2a to clean his eye and give him a treatment.  If thats what we gotta do to save his eye then we're gonna do it!

In response to Birkie's post yesterday, I too, feel like a heffer. So, Im going running tonight.

Easy ride. Legs felt great. Felt damn good to get outside again. HR was a bit high...whatdya expect for not doing anything for 8 days and eating like junk.

Milo's appt went good lastnight. In talking w/ the Dr, he said that Milo's eye was the worst he's seen in a quite a long time. Basically, the bottom 1/3 of his eye was mush. After the appt, I took the cats outside in the garden, by the apple trees and in the corn field (thats why no bike ride lastnight). They loved that and it was a good distraction for Milo. He had his eye open, but he has some edema in his eye so it looks kinda gross still. His personality is coming back as well. Everything's heading in the right direction so things are looking on the up n up for him.

Alright, Im really getting antsy to get out and do something. It almost feels like a taper week from hell now. I fell 100% and I want to get back in the swing of things. Bike or run tonight. Hopefully the bike, but we'll see whats up.

Sometimes when I wake up around 5a ish, Ill open the door up and let the cats roam around inside and out by themselves.  This morning we woke up to what basically looked like a bird exploded in our house.  Feathers were EVERYWHERE.  Not just in one room, but three spread out throughout the house.  We found Opie sitting in the corner gnawing on a bird thats bigger than his head.  He's been in big-time hunter mode lately and bringing us lots of "presents".  We could only laugh and how much feathers were all over the house.

Milo is doing better.  His eye is still closed, but he's starting to act like himself again.

We went to a wedding lastnight and they had a band playing there called "Down Lo ".  They were pretty damn good!! Bring out the funk.

Im bringing my nutrition back on track today.  Ive been eating like shiznat the last week.

After taking Milo to the vet for the 3rd time yesterday, the vets finally figured out what was wrong.  Milo has an ulcer on his eye and its basically "melting" his eye.  Kinda like how a stomach ulcer eats away the stomach lining, an eye ulcer eats away the outer layers of the eye.  Its a lot worse than we thought and was a good thing we brought him in yesterday.  His eye was "melted" down the last layer.  Another couple of days and he might have lost the eye.  Not good.  We had to put him into surgery yesterday afternoon.  Doc said it was worse than he thought as well once he started working on Milo.  Poor guy had a 1.5cm by 8mm "hole" in his eye that was leaking as well.  His eye is fully recoverable, which is good and Milo should be back to 100% in a few days, hopefully.
