One hour easy on the trainer. I was going to try running at a HS track today, but there was a game of some sort going on there, so I went home and rode.

Swim:

I wasn't too happy with my scheduled swim workout. It was supposed to be 1800 yards of warm up with the main set of 1500 yards and 200 cool down. I know it's a recovery week, but 1800 yards???

Warm up:
200 swim, 200 kick, 200 pull

Main set:
various sets of 200's ( some swim, some swim w/ fins and a lot of kick w/ fins)

I am in a weird frame of mind right now. I wouldn't say it was a funk...more like indifferent to the Iron distance. I know that  after my 3 hour run in 2 weeks, I will be able to finish the race. It wouldn't be pretty but I could do it. So comes the endless battle between speed and comfort. As I just finished paying $1700 for airfare to Spokane, not to mention the rental car, the hotel, food for a week, family entertainment for a week and all the IM crap I'm going to buy, I'm just not sure it's worth it for me to go out and just comfortably finish the race. It was last year. I just don't know about this year. I keep telling myself that CDA isn't my "A" race this season...but that doesn't help when I'm looking at $4K in race expenses.

On a brighter note I got an email from someone from the Double Ironman race crew. I had a question about training for a double and she asked me a bunch of questions about me and my training so she can better help me make a training plan. How cool is that???

Really good swim for me today

Warm up:

  • 10 x 25 w/ 5 SR
  • 3 x 200 (swim, kick w/ fins, pull)

Main set:

  • 50 - 150 - 250 - 350 - 450 - 350 - 250 - 150 - 50 w / 20-30 SR
Lately my easy swims have been in the 1:50-1:55/ 100 range. A bit slower than last year but I feel more relaxed in the water so it's a trade off I can except. My main set today was in the 1:45 range with no change in effort and on the 450 set there was a triathlon looking guy swimming next to me so of course I had to put the hammer down on him so most of the set was in the 1:35 range. He was kicking his legs like a motor boat so when I would catch him, I would stop kicking and just pull as slow and powerfull as I could so he could see I wasn't trying but still passing him. :) I was glad he was there otherwise I would have just cruised through the worlout like I always do.

Cool down:

  • 400 kick w/ fins

Just noticed that I am ahead of my pace to break 250,000 yards for 2006. I will bump up my distances when the pool stays open later, but I don't know how much swimming I will be doing after October, so I had better get in my swims now :)

mentally not ready to run. The whole Easter schedule has thrown me off. But I think I could use a rest day anyway.

Nevermind. Some habits are hard to break. Easy ride on trainer Moved my legs while playing Playstation

I would like to say I did this ride straight, but I didn't. I cheated. I was supposed to ride 5 hours with my buddies through the mountains, but the rain kept me home. I don't know if they rode or not but I don't like descending when it's dry, but in the rain is a no-go. If we were to ride the coast I would have toughed it out but I know they wouldn't change the ride for me.

I did the ride as 2.5 hours, then I went to the police auction because I had a dream they had some Hed 3's up for auction (they didn't), so I came right home and put in another 2.5 hours. I did another 1 hour while Sean took a nap.

Steve-'s comments about how trainer hours don't translate to road hours has me really concerned. I know I can put in 6+ hours on the road, but I don't want it to be painful.

OK, Sea World trip... Strike 2! I woke up this morning and it was warm out. I took Sean to school and Lauren to my mom's house and went for a run. Because my mom had plans I had to cut my run shorter than planned. After the run I took Lauren to Sea World. We got there, put on sunscreen and went inside. We got to the first show and got great seats. Just before the show ended the skies opened up and we got drenched. It kept raining and since we were both in shorts and a t-shirt we left. We went to pizza hut for lunch then went bowling for a while. Overall a good trip :)

 Run:

plan called for 20 min warm up, then 6 x 5:00 at HR 2/3 with 2 min easy, then 20 min cool down

In reality the run was:

  • 7:00 warm up
  • 4 x 5:00 hard w/ 2:00 easy
  • 6:00 cool down

Bike:

  • 2 hours on the trainer
