Race simulation day:

The morning started off good. My pool doesn't open until 8 am so I got to sleep in. I ate a cheese sandwich for breakfast. I got all of my stuff together and out to the car. I went to put air in my tires and my rear tire was totally flat. I didn't change it, I just put air in and drove to the gym (mistake)

I got in the water just around 8 and the swim went well. I did the first 100 in 1:33, so I slowed down a little because that was too fast for me.

After the swim, I changed my clothes and went out to my car. I got all of my bike gear together and went to take my bike out, and the rear tire was flat again. Flashback to IMCdA :(

My T1 time was 10:54. I did stop the watch for the tire repair. (7 minutes)

Bike:

The bike went really well. I was very happy with my time as I expected to ride at a 15 mph pace, but I decided to stay within my HR zones and not worry about pace. Anybody that knows me, knows that my HR doesn't get that high, so I was really working to get it to the low 130's. I was afraid I would pop, but I knew I could limp home if I needed to. I didn't have to.

T2: Time was 9:01

Just changed my shoes and put my bike away. I was careful not to spill any of my water bottles. That's why my T2 took so long. That's my story and I'm sticking to it :)

Run:
I think my run was short. It was supposed to be 7 miles and I mapped it out online earlier in the week. The problem is, it was a new route for me and I had a bunch of out and backs down little side streets. I think I was supposed to do one more out and back on the return back to my car. I didn't figure that out until I was at my car about 5 - 10 minutes earlier than I expected. This run had a lot of hills in it. At one point my HR got to 169. That must be some sorta record for me. I think my max HR is 170, because one more beat and I think I would have died :)

Total training time: 4:41:19. My nutrtion was good too. I tried a little different version of my drink, but I might go back to my original formula, to compare and contrast.

After the run, I went back to the locker, showered, then went back out to the pool. I got in another 300 or so, to make it an even 1000. I did lots of stretching and general goofing off in the water too.

When I got home, Lauren was waiting for me because her first pair of glasses were ready to be picked up and we had about an hour until the Aztecs basketball game. She got her glasses and we got to the game just in time for tip off.
Aztecs won!

After the game we waited in traffic forever then went to my MIL's house for my nephews birthday party.

Whew, 8:30 pm and I am finally home!

3 loops around the hood

Well, so much for leaving work early to go workout.  A D.A. showed up and wants a court chart for the trial on Tuesday. Considering I have Friday off and WAS going to leave early today, that leaves no time to finish it. I will stay late today, come in tomorrow after I teach but before I pick Lauren up for soccer, and come in Sunday after my run and maybe, just maybe it will be finished and copied (for the defense) in time for my testimony on Tuesday.

Bike:

1:10 @ MAF w/ 2 x 5 minutes standing
Rode a little extra because Madden went a little longer than expected :)

Run:

3 loops around my house. About .5 mile each loop

  • 4:41 Hr 138
  • 4:51 Hr 147
  • 4:47 Hr 149
  •  :51 Hr 150 (A little longer to try and make it and even 1.5 miles)

January 24

The cough is better today. I will try Master's swim tonight.

Going out to lunch today...for my birthday, of course. I think this is the last day of my Birthday Celebration Week :(

Lauren's softball went well. Her team is going to be good. And Lauren isn't bad either. Batting practice tonight

No swim: I had to chose between watching Lauren bat or go to the pool. I stayed and watched. Well, Lauren isn't a natural at everything :) Batting will take a little time, effort and patience. Lord help us :)

Oh my. My legs are still shot. Today was a hard one to get motivated for.

I was going to skip the run brick, but the whole cow family has made a conscious decision to follow through on everything we do. Kind of a "Take what you want, but eat what you take" philosophy. For me, its doing all of my workouts, like they are scheduled and to give 100% to my class. For Happy, it's finishing all of the home projects that she starts. For Lauren, its sticking to all of her extra curricular activities. And for Sean, well... he's good. Everytime he sets out to destroy our house, he follows through flawlessly :)

I am so glad tomorrow is a swim day. Hockey is going to suck tonight!

Positive: I have to thank whoever told me to wear latex gloves under my bike gloves (I think it was Jazz). I tried that today and my hands were so toasty warm.

Hockey:

The legs didn't feel too bad. It's a good thing the other team sucks more than we do
