Little dreadmill run. Didn't get up early enough to get 60-90 min in :( Damon had to leave for Milwaukee and will be back very late tonight, so I was hoping to get 5-7 miles in. Oh well. 30 min is something, will try to get on the dreadmill tonight again after the kids are in bed.

7:49 am: Meeting Nancy at LTF today at 11.  She offered to help with my swim stroke on land, so to speak.  We will be strength training and she wants to show me a few drills.  Excited!  If I can get my Steelhead swim closer to 45 min, I'll be happy.  For now.  I'm reading TI book and have a couple of videos on triathlon swimming (both TI), so hoping for a little improvement.  Probably nothing sizeable for this race, because I only have 4 weeks left, but it's ok.  I'm ok with my times as they are now, because I realize this is where I am with my fitness and I'm ok with it.  But, I also realize what I need to do to be faster at Racine next year.  So as long as I commit to consistent training after the race, i know I'll be faster and better for future events :)

8:17 pm: ugh.  Today was an interesting day.  Damon had to leave for work very early and was gone all day, which I knew would happen.  For whatever reason, the kids gave me a run for my money today.. Nikita was full of defiance in the morning and got some priviledges taken away for his tone and disobedience... Lukas has been acting like he's coming down with smth all day-crying at the drop of a hat, wanting me to hold him all.day.long (which i did).. Nikita threw another huge fit to finish the day off.  I'm just worn out.

Today, I was going to put in another 90 min of running between Lukas' nap and tonight.... well, Lukas woke up right as I was heading into the basement to run (after my nap ;) ), and by the time tonight rolled around, I am so exhausted, physically and mentally, running is the last thing I want to do.  So, instead I'm drinking a glass of Bordeaux (a large glass) and eating Cherry Garcia.  And I have Body Comp test in the morning.. I'm sure that will turn out lovely now.  Sigh.  It is what it is.  I"m not going to beat myself up or dwell on "the day is a failure" moments that happen to flutter through my mind from time to time.  Sometimes, that's just how it is.

It doesn't help things that Damon just told me yesterday he'll be out of town next Mon-Thur and then playing softball thur night, which means I get NO outdoor biking or swimming most of next week... and I'm 4 weeks away from my big race.  Sigh.  And he is doing lights at church this Sunday, which means I get to go do a 5 hr workout in 95 degree heat.  Yes, i know I need to train in heat, but i don't know that I can do it for 5 hrs.  And I hate doing long workouts in the afternoon (because there is a compounding chance of life and kids and laziness happening in the way of the workout).  But what can you do? It is what it is.  So i think all of this has been on my mind, and the kids being a little crazy today just all added up..... well, to a glass of Bordeaux.

Tomorrow is another day.  And despite the moments of craziness, I'm SO thankful to have crying, tantrum-throwing kids and an awesome husband who brought me flowers and ice cream.  And I'm also thankful for Bordeaux.  Cheers!

Another little swim at Silver Lake. Got there, saw Robin, Karrie and Trish in the water without their wetsuits, and decided to follow suit. Plus, my wetsut has a tear that is not all the way through yet, and needs to be cemented. I worry I'm playing with luck here by continuing to swim in it unrepaired.... so it seemed like a good idea to jump into lake's bath water without the wetsuit. Wish I had time for a longer swim....

94 degrees. Holy crap, it's HOT.

I was trying to take a nap, actually, Lukas wasn't sleeping and I csn't sleep when he isn't.. usually he just lays down and goes to sleep, today was different. So 30 min into trying to fall asleep, I was still awake and more exhausted than before... you know how you are just on the egde of falling asleep and then some annoying toy or your happy toddler wakes up right up...over and over and over. Oy. Then, Damon comes in and says he is done with work and would I like to go for a bike ride until 3:45 (their work is taking them to watch Cubs)? I want to say that I hate him a little, because I'm SO exhausted and of course there will be no nap now, but I'm thankful for an opportunity to squeeze in a workout, so obviously, I go.

tired.

well, the day turned into mostly a rest day.  Meant to run 90 min, but the day got away and I ran out of time.  Will do it tomorrow..

Yeah. Depressing. Legs=lead. I knew I was just running to shake the legs out, but thought I'd at least stay at the 12 min pace. Oh well. Whatever. It was already 89 degrees at 7:15, I got back with sweat dripping off of me (and I don't sweat!)!

Spinning class at LTF with Nancy. I was hoping for an easy spin, and of course, she plans sprints and such. Oy. My legs didn't want to move the first 10 min, then I kind of got into it :)

95 degrees at 5pm. Seriuosly! I am trying to maximize outdoor time this week, since Damon will be gone Wed afternoon-Friday evening. Work is taking them to watch Cubs (rooftop gig) on Wed pm and then he is traveling for work Thur-fri.. so while I realize that I have racked up 15 hours of training in the past 4 days and it's a lot (for me), I figured I would just do an easy ride.

My legs are certainly tired, it's hot, I really couldn't get any speed going. Part of it was going south on the path from my house, which has little street crossings every 52 feet, I think... but really, I just felt tired and out of steam. Told myself I'm just doing a 90 minute ride, it's recovery, don't care about pace (which I did, of course)... it's done, I'm glad to be inside and surrounded by cold air ;)

Brick run. Hah! My pace? I swear I ran. I did 90:45s and did walk more in the beginning, but by my pace, you'd think I never ever ran. It was freaking hot out there-96 degrees! I thought I might melt into the pavement, and that'd be that. Almost no shade where I ran (loops around LTF), so the sun was beating down on me... Have NO idea how I made it that long day in Racine last year in 101 temps.

I was planning on 5 miles, actually, but somewhere along the way, the devil on my shoulder spoke and well.... I did start feeling better after 2.5 miles and my running pace was actually around 10 min/mile (which is where i wanted it to be), but by then, the deal was struck, the compromises have been made, and there was no extending this torture. Maybe next week.

  • ..totally did not plan on a 3.1, just worked out that way. Let's all hope I will never run a 5K in 42 minutes. If i ever do, just shoot me on sight.

  • Ok, i'm home. I'm showered. I'm less hot.. I actually texted my husband and asked if there is a chance we might put our home AC on 34 degrees... it was that hot outside. I thought I might melt on a cellular level..
...and now, I'm going to take a blessed NAP!

Our 23 miler with the group. Kathy (krazytallchick) was in town and came to run with us! She was scheduled to run 2.5 hours, so because of how we looped our run, she was able to run with us for 2 hours before turning back. It was great to meet her in person!!!

good run. Ran the rest of the way with Steve and Lisa. Heat was really getting to Steve, so he struggled the last 5 or so miles (82-83 degrees, humid). I felt great! Nice run ;)

now, I'm going to nap :) ... and the muscles said..."Ahhhhhhh"

Nice OWS at Silver Lake. I went by myself, which is not ideal, i know, but it went ok. Hubby has a day off, so I didn't have to get up stupid early, as per usual, so I went at 8 am :) No boats (was worried about that), very warm lake.

the swim is out and back, out and back.. i usually swim 30-40 strokes freestyle, then do 10-15 breast strokes, but on the third length, I swam the entire 500+ yards freestyle, never did a breaststroke and felt so great! Did the same on the last length.
