Wow!  I did the Oly.  It was fun and now everything is tired.  My toes hurt and achilies tendons hurt. But the good news  2ND IN AGE GROUP!.

All the fast guys stayed home.  Showing up is usually half the battle, sometimes I guess it's all it takes to win.  I'm excited anyway.  I thought I'd finish in 3:30, but finished at 3:03.  My bike and running have both come a long way, and I'm happy!

I'm still not as fast as El-in-or.  And she keeps getting faster :)

Time to shower, eat (again), laundry and veg out.

A side note: I really felt like Deanna was with me on the swim. I cannot imagine why she'd hang with an old slow guy like me, but I enjoyed having her along.

Saturday - August 11

drive to race day.  rest day.  I believe I'll take a short swim in the river this afternoon to get a feel for the open water part of the race, then drive the bike course.  Packet pickup and pre race meeting at 6:45 this afternoon.  I've never had a manditory pre race meeting the day before.  This Oly is more serious than the sprints I've run.  Excited, and just a bit nervous.

Taper - rest day.  Slept in after the big road trip.  Very light weights just to keep from going crazy, and keep the blood flowing.

Thursday - August 9

Drive back to Midland today.  Rest day without much rest.  had to stop on the way and close my eyes for 1/2 hour.  just couldn't stay awake.  Early to bed tonight.

I decided that the best thing I could do this week for the race Sunday was to get to bed on time every night.  So much for good plans.  Well I still have tonight, and tomorrow night.  The night before the race cannot be counted on for good sleep.

Last training day before the race.  Trained in Ruidoso.  Everything here is hills. up or down but no flats.  6000ft elevation.  cut the bike short just because of time.  Drove 5.5 hrs to Taos to get my son's ski boots worked on  Drove 5.5 hours back.  that's a lot of driving  -- it's 1:45 am time to go to bed.  but I had to check on Deanna first.

I think about training all the time.   All my training is geared toward the next triathlon.  I've done three this season, and two last season.  I've even shaved my legs (gasp)  I wonder when I'll start thinking of myself as a triathlete?
