worked on manuvers from about 10:00 till 12:00 with Mark. then hiked the ridge and did the steeps a couple of times. Then the big bump run a couple of times, maybe three. Stopped about 2:30 to head back to Rudoso. Hard choice. Beer festivle at the base area at 4:00, and they were roasting a whole pig. Then tourchlight parade and fireworks. Sounded like a great party.

Here's my random dirt road from Thursday.  Looking off to where I'll run.

me at the start of the run.  Thought I'd try the self portrait thing.  I need to learn to not look so dorky, and smile or something.  Takes me too much concentration apparently to push the camera button and hold the camera at the same time. :)

looking back

Looking back at the starting location.  The car is parked where the road disappears.

worked the morning on short and medium radius turns. hiked the ridge and skiied one of the double blacks - mush snow - not much form, just survival.

PM skiied with the group. Made some progress, and had fun. Last run was down the big bumps, and Doug gave us a demo of what they want. He sais my legs were doing what they should, but I needed to keep the upper body more facing directly downhill.

Had a ball. Sad because this is the last group practice before the exam next week. But, two of the group said they might ski tomorrow. I've got phone numbers - hopefully we'll get together.

Sunny awesome day.  Snow pretty hard at first, and I didn't show up till 10:00.  Softened pretty quickly after that.  some slopes were total mush by late afternoon.  They'll be ice in the morning.

Tomorrow - ski the bumps a bunch and ski the proposed off piste slope at least twice.  Look for a way to get into it without hiking a whole bunch.

in the morning. Got to be strong for the ski exam.

Work in the am, drive to Taos in the afternoon.  Love daylight savings for driving.  plenty of time to run in the evening before dark.  took lots of time to stretch after - especially the achilles and foot.

in VFF's heel hurt a little. It's not so bad when I run but gets aggravated later in the day. Perhaps I should just not stop running.

P90x plyometrics after run. 2.5 of the sessions. today I found them a bit easier. Still breathing hard, and at the end of some sets my quads were burning. 30 min
e-cises 15 min.

Fear cannot be without some hope, nor hope without some fear. - Baruch Spinoza

Easy run today, then plyometrics for strength, explosiveness, and balance to aide in skiing skills.  e-cises for heel.

Again, I have used up most of my allocated days for work.  Making progress and getting the hours in, but again I have not reached the work goals I set.

Tomorrow luncheon technical presentation at the professional society.  Thursday AM - presentation to upper management on the project I've been working.  Today I was supposed to be on to another project, but have not gotten there.

I feel good about the research and testing I did yesterday on the project I'm working.  Probably should have done some of that type of testing before, but this is the first time I really needed it.  Interesting results - in a geeky geophysical sort of way.

I might be the most patient guy you've ever met.  Had a new hot water heater installed in November.  In December smelled gas.  shut off the gas and called the plumber who installed it.  I've been calling him on and off for four months now.  He's called back twice, once to say he was on his way over.  did he ever show?  So now, I'm about out of patience.  I'm going to call daily for a week.  Then I'm calling BBB, and who ever licenses plumbers, and the city, and anyone else I can think to call.

e-cises - working on the sore foot.

Love is the "affirmation of affirmations"; it enlarges the vision, expands the heart.  - Wilferd Peterson

The most important motive for work in school and in life is pleasure in work, pleasure in it's result, and the knowledge of the value of the result to the community.  - Albert Einstein

Washed my car and waxed the rear half yesterday.  Huge thunderstorms last night!  We need the moisture and the car was garaged anyway. Just saying that every time I wash my car it rains.  Perhaps I should wash it more often.

So I suppose I'm officially freeking out about the ski exam.  Last night the thunderstorm lasted at least a couple of hours.  Every time the thunder woke me I was making the second turn of one of the exam runs.  Again and again.

I'm in town till Thursday of this week then another four days of training.  I cannot believe the ski season is almost over.  One more training trip, then the exam weekend.  If I don't pass, I go to Vail two weeks after that.  It's a 14 hour drive.  I love to go ski there, but am not excited about the drive, or the time it will require me to be off work.

Attempted to do the e-cises yesterday after riding and lifting.  Hip flexor cramping prevented one of them, and left foot cramping prevented one of the other.

Rest day today.  Tomorrow plyometrics, and perhaps a short run.  Foot still quite sore.

A man sees in the world what he carries in his heart. - Johann Wolfgang von Gothe

Sad day today.  The mama cat passed away sometime in the last day or so.  She was over 15 years old, so it was probably about time.  I didn't see her Friday or all day Saturday.   It's not unusual for her to dissapear for a day or even two, but when she didn't show this morning I went to look in some of her favorite hiding places, just in case I had missed her.  There she was laying there, looking like she was sleeping, but she was gone.

Had to tell the kids and x.  Buried her (the cat, not the x) in the back garden.
