Random dirt road in the middle of nowhere. est mileage.
Drive to Taos for exam. Stopped along the way to run for 20 min. It was a county road, but the sign on the fence said no trespassing. I ran anyway, but worried about it. stopped short because main focus this weekend is Sunday skiing.
It's sure pretty out here, and I love being in the middle of nowhere.

very easy and short, just to keep the blood flowing. Taper/recover week this week. -- Exam on Sunday

Group ride on tap for tonight.
11 hours of sleep last night. turned off alarm, and bam! 8:30 in the morning.
I think four days of skiing combined with the travel time is perhaps exhausting. It takes a day or so to sink in. Woke up at 4:30 and felt like I could get up, but knowing I leave tomorrow for another trip made me thing better of it. Next week, if I'm up at 4:30 I stay up and work out.
I had to open a new tube of toothpaste. I know, my life is truly exciting. Why I took the time to read the box, I don't know, but I did. After all, someone took time to write it. Did you know that the flip up top can also be used as a screw top. How about that? A dual feature top. Bet you didn't realize the technology included with your toothpaste tube. :)

est mileage. Ran at the Mescalero Sand Dunes park. Lovely dirt road, a bit rocky. Loving daylight savings time, I had an hour at least before it got dark, and the freedom to run down the dirt road to the sand dunes. cut off the road on a ATV trail and ran through the sand up to the Dunes, then around and over the top of some. in VFF's Feet hurt a little, but not too bad. Very freeing run. Shorts and vff's.
Stopped to talk to the guy living at the park host site. he's a trapper, trapping wild hogs, because they are preying on lesser prarie chickens, who it appears are soon to be extinct. dumb birds. nest on the ground. Don't fly away when danger approaches. The early settlers used to just club them when it was dinner time.
Fabulous run, although the first few minutes were tough after skiing for four days. after that it felt great to be out running.
turned in my uniform, and did the sign out paperwork, then just went out by myself and worked on skills. There were four skiers on the mountain and three snow board riders.
It was pretty frozen at first so I stuck to the two groomed intermediate trails. After it thawed I just played where-ever. After my warm up I did exam specific manuverr, starting just as in the exam - short straight run then into the specific turns required. Think I'm getting it.
Skied just a little with Mark who was out with a friend. Made about three mogul runs. If I can ski like that in the exam, I think I may pass. It was pretty awesome. Stayed on the mountain till almost 1:30.
I'm pretty excited about the changes in my skiing. Now if I can just demo them at exam!
Changed and said good bye to the folks who were up there.
After stopping to talk with the wildlife guy, the sun was setting as I hit the main highway. Great way to finish a run.

Worked on manuvers from about 9:30 till 10:00. Checked in. The director had me go in to the office to check on my missing pay check. Still not in. The first pay period I worked, and my largest of the year, and still no pay check. Arg.
After that the supervisor let me go till noon. I went to work on skills more. Just before noon I found my buddy Rankin who is a supervisor. Grabbed a quick bite of lunch with him, then spent the afternoon skiing like maniacs all over the mountain. Lots of slush, but fun, fun. worked my tail off. skiing is definitely improving.
Saturday evening's random dirt road, somewhere by Duran NM
and here's the sunset - it was just gorgeous. a bit chilly so I actually had to wear a shirt this time. :)

stopped on a random dirt road and ran toward the sunset. will post pics later. beautiful place
worked on manuvers from about 10:00 till 12:00 with Mark. then hiked the ridge and did the steeps a couple of times. Then the big bump run a couple of times, maybe three. Stopped about 2:30 to head back to Rudoso. Hard choice. Beer festivle at the base area at 4:00, and they were roasting a whole pig. Then tourchlight parade and fireworks. Sounded like a great party.
Here's my random dirt road from Thursday. Looking off to where I'll run.
me at the start of the run. Thought I'd try the self portrait thing. I need to learn to not look so dorky, and smile or something. Takes me too much concentration apparently to push the camera button and hold the camera at the same time. :)
Looking back at the starting location. The car is parked where the road disappears.

Stopped to check in with the examiners and the candidate group - and perhaps to score a free lift ticket. Scored a ticket and wished everyone well.
Ran into a buddy from Ruidsos and we skiied together in the morning. Basically I worked on my drills and manuvers and he skiied along. Good and enjoyable morning. We stopped for a drink at 10:00 and rested some. Also stopped to watch the extreem ski competition for a bit. Good morning not too stressful or tiring. After lunch I hiked twice and skiied the two double black trails that were mentioned as possible exam trails. Did the most likely well. It's steep and has variable snow, but mostly pretty friendly. I posted pictures of it before. The other had some skiied parts which were skiable, but the unskiied part had serious snow melt / slush / garbage that was pretty challenging on my slalom skiis. Probably be ok with some of the all mountain skiis. Three runs down Blitz, the probable bump run. Easy first and that was ok. final run was actually pretty good. Got to remember to breath. It's too long to hold your breath the whole way. :) The only thing that has me concerned is if they add the bottom flat stretch. The bumps are getting bigger with the slush, and I'm usually pretty pooped out by then. Got to remember to breath!
Took one run down Reforma just for fun. bumps are smallish there.
The time got away from me and I didn't quit till 4:00. Skied the last pitch of moguls well to the base. I'm feeling a little more confident.
Sign post on top of cornice. snow's getting pretty rotten.
