Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. - Dr Suess
Here I am 1/2 way through my life, or farther, and I'm still trying to figure out who I am. Perhaps it's because who I am today is not who I was 15 years ago. That scares me a little.
I want to be kind. caring. considerate. a good friend. a good athlete. helpful. I want to help people. I want to make a difference in people's lives. I want to be awesome. Not sure I'll ever get there. Our dog used to think I was awesome.
Funny thing happened last Saturday when I arrived home from the race. I backed the car into the driveway so I could unload all the stuff. Just as I was opening the car door, I pictured our dog Megan running up beside the door with her tail wagging her body and a big grin on her face - you know how dogs do. Megan's been gone from us now for almost three years. Strange flashback. Happy yet sad at the same time.
Nice little run today. recovery type of run and it felt ok. Some day maybe I ought to start following the training plan. Tomorrow I plan to get up early and see if I can get ~ 100 miles in before my noon commitment at 'safety day.' Dinner tomorrow night with cycling friends and the coach I've invited to town for a clinic and club presentation. Sunday: Medium ride, long run. Followed by cycling clinic. Eclipse of the sun on Sunday afternoon. Should be cool. Busy weekend.
I need to get this month's invoices out this afternoon. They're almost 18 days late.

Take your risks now, as you grow older you become more fearful and less flexible. - unknown
This is so true. In spite of the fact that I fight growing older, and fight becoming more fearful, and fight becoming less flexible.
Last night's ride was awesome. I rode with Cat and Charlie who are both training for the 24 hours in the canyon. They also thought that spending an hour doing 10 mph would be to miss a good training opportunity. So we rode out with the Ride of Silence group, but at the very back. After all if one is going to ditch a ride, possibly insulting people, one should at least be discrete. At one mile there is an overpass, and we turned left. Rode over to Odessa, stopped a minute for me to pee, then headed back. Charlie pulled on the way out at 17 to 18 mph. Cat was hurting having gone to the gym on Monday, so we held it a bit in check for her.
I pulled on the way back and we were comfortable at 20 to 21 mph. I seriously do not know where that came from. I just felt strong. Flags were hanging limp - no wind! At about 1788 I was done with 20 mph, but after the stop light we rode 19 to 20 the rest of the to town. Well, except for the last 1/2 mile, where I declared it was time to set the world land speed record. I could not get above 27.4 mph. I'm pretty sure Charlie hit 30. he definitely left me. We regrouped at the highway sign and rode medium back through town. Enjoyable group, strong ride and we got 40 miles. It was just starting to get dark when we got to the bike shop at 9:00. I love summer time.
Today I had trouble moving very fast. Ran to the office and wanted to open it up to let the cool air in, but my garage door combination wouldn't work. Finished my run, showered and ate. Finally made it to the office, and No power. no computers, no nothing. I suppose coming in earlier just wouldn't have added much to my day. Power came on about the time I called the power company.
decided to skip Yoga today in favor of the run. The run was good. Still, perhaps I ought to see about another provider. That 9:00 am yoga at the YMCA is tough to make, and takes a big chunk out of the day.

Rode over to the Ceed. once on the hwy rode at 17 to 18 mph.
Stopped to visit and for the ceremony honoring the fallen cyclists from our area. Rode the first mile at 10 mph with the group.
Peeled off and went the other way at 17 to 18 over to Odessa. Brief stop then rode pretty much 20 mph all the way back to town.
Great ride, longish for a Wednesday and fun, with good company.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down "happy." They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life. - John Lennon
Stayed up too late finishing my first Clyde Clussler novel. When you get to a certain point in a book, it just simply must be finished. Got back from the Triathlete 101 meeting at the Y kind of late after standing outside and visiting for almost 1/2 an hour. Enjoyed the meeting, and we've got 25 signed up. We'll see how many make it to the first swim on Monday and the first bike on Wednesday. Late dinner and reading. oops. some day I'll learn. maybe.
Group ride tonight is supplanted by the Ride of silence which is painfully slow. like less than 10 mph. last year I had to keep applying the brakes in order to not be blown by the wind faster than the group was going. But a few of us are going to ride out there. I definitely want to support the ride. I'm not real sure I want to spend an hour at 10 mph though. Maybe I'll be there for the beginning, follow the group out, staying in the back, then at the first turn around, turn and do a fast loop. Would that be so bad?
Missed my run this morning, just got up too late and needed to get to the office.

Temp at the house 63 - oh wait I thought, I've been here before, the temp at the airport will be 53 - and that's what it was. I was glad I put on extra clothes. Still a cool ride.
Legs very sluggish this morning. Felt better on the return.
Glad I got out - Great sun rise this morning.
Three Simple Rules in Life:
1) If you do not GO after what you want, you'll never have it.
2) If you do not ask, the answer will always be NO.
3) If you do not step FORWARD you will ALWAYS be in the same place. - Stolen from The Chive.
Nice little ride this morning. Skipped the Yoga, just so I'll have more time at the office today. Massage today - good stuff.
Trying a double dose of Salmon for lunch - see if that makes a better lunch and leaves me more awake during the afternoon.
Got to lay in the sun for 15 minutes at lunch time.
Miss Kitty brought me another live bird today. She just set it down and looked proud of herself. I picked it up, took it outside and let it fly away. I like the live birds much better than dead ones. She's such a great hunter. I told her so. Then I fed her.

I just really felt like going out to run. Call it a recovery run. Beautiful day, coolish even though it was almost 12:30. Sunny, with some clouds, trees pretty, I feel great.
Started easy with the usual walking and stretching in the beginning. I just ran how I felt - turned out to be mostly kind of a tempo pace.
Felt fabulous till the last few blocks. Slowed it down in the last block.
Mid 2/3 of run ave HR 136.

Muscles sore / tired from yesterday's Olympic. and muscles are wasting away. Need to be doing some weights. Took it easy on the upper body exercises so as to not aggrivate shoulder. shoulder presses cannot be done without much pain, so I didn't do them
Need to figure out how to spend enough time with the weights to build muscle, and still train for the IM.
Dear Blog, I'm confused. In the past few weeks every time I swim a bit my shoulder gets much worse. So I didnt' swim at all last week, then did the 1500M swim yesterday. In the afternoon as I suspected I could hardly extend my arm. Today - It's better. Almost better than it's been the whole time since I drove it into the snow so I wouldn't break my head. Now how does that work?
Cannot decide if it needs to be repaired, if it needs rest, or if it needs to be rehabbed.
I feel fantastic today!
12 hours of sleep last night. hanging with a real IM athlete yesterday, Oly at a pretty good effort yesterday.
So far a great weekend. Today I've got a huge list of stuff to do, including exciting stuff like laundry, cleaning the acquarium. Got a new book, what if I twist off and read and sleep?
I've enjoyed being a human being this morning, and not so much a human doing. but this afternoon - what's left of it, I think I've got to get on with the doing. I feel so good today. Happy.

The wind is my training partner. She was brutal today. We worked on patience. After 17 miles my average speed was an in-your-face 11mph. Focused on riding easy. at 33 miles average speed was up to 13 mph after a wonderful 20 mph quartering cross wind. Then another out into the wind segment. Winds now up to 25 with gusts to 30 (est) The return leg? max speed 34. mostly riding 26-28 mph. quick stop to refill water bottles, then a hard segment at 27 mph to catch a couple rabbits. Easy home at 25 mph with quartering tail wind. a good, mostly easy - except for the patience part - ride.
Remind me never to commit to anything on Saturday afternoon from now till IMFL. Cut the ride short because I said I'd help with safety day. It was fun, and we had lunch together. Talked much about the 24 hrs in the canyon. But I did have to cut the ride short. now, if I had been able to drag myself out of bed at 4:00 and moved faster... but I didn't.
Dinner tonight with cycling friends and the coach who's come to town for the clinic tomorrow.
