directions 1st hour z2, second hour z3, last 1/2 hour upper z3-z4, so that's what I tried to do.

Starting out I felt weak, so I just rode real easy, enjoyed being out and the early morning. Nose stopped running and stopped hurting after a little while. Was careful not to readjust my glasses. started feeling reaonable after a while. Explored a country road I've not taken before to get a few more miles.

Did the I20 to Odessa and back on 191 route. From Odessa to Midland is an hour on the bike. As I turned the corner, there was a bicyclist in front of me. Looked like he was wearing One Hour Racing kit. Usually cannot catch thoes guys, but this is supposed to be z3, so I took it there and gradually caught him. turns out it's Roman who I can ride with but seldom catch. Turns out he cramped up bad yesterday. We rode for a while at 19 to 20, then pretty steady 20. I let him set the pace. After a while he said go on, he needed to take it easy , so I kept it in the Z3 range to the 1/2 way point. After that I did several reps of standing for two telephone poles. Passed some friends. Who later said, I just couldn't ride with you at 22mph. Cannot believe I was riding that fast into an easy head wind. But legs felt strong. Don't know where that came from but I like it.

eat, shower and two hour nap after ride.  Ride and run felt good once I got going.  Well ,the run not so much, but that's a brick for you.

Think I'll go to the Doc-in-a-Box and see if I can get some antibiotics.  This headache/nose ache/ sinus / runny nose is almost debilitating, and I've got a race next week.  supposed to be working this afternoon.

One Week till race day!

Up at 6:00 ready to head out the door at 7:00.  When I moved it just hurt deep inside.  That kind of hurt that says, you should really go back to bed.  Really sorry to miss the MS training ride, and my ride, but I laid down on the floor and slept till past noon.

My eyes have been hurting this week and at times I felt like I was getting a sinus infection.  Today it's obvious that I have another skin infection developing on the bridge of my nose.  very painful to wear my glasses, and I've got a runny nose.  Eyes, nose, sinuses all hurt.

Got a couple chores done after my long nap.  Just didn't wear my glasses.  fixed the toilet and got the bug stuff put on the lawn.  Went to an alumni gathering, and that turned out to be fun, and possibly made some good contacts for skiing.

K showed up with a flat tire and asked me if I would change it so she could get ready. So I did. The rest of the tri group waited for us.

Then we rode off, and she left the group in the dust. I said, don't leave the group, but did she? NO.

I wanted to run with her after, so I chased after and caught her and the little group with her.

We had four pretty novice, but strong, riders, so on the way out of town I was giving them hints on how to ride safely in a group.

Out on the highway, we were riding about 18 - 20 pretty good pace.

The young one A, was with us and riding pretty well. K was pulling and A was second. When A dropped off to go to the rear, A sat up too, causing the usual confusion when second does not take their pull.

he dropped back, and I dropped off the rear to discuss with him token pulls, and how to ride in a peleton.

I tried to pull him up to the group, but by that time they were too far ahead, and I just couldn't bridge the gap. A and I rode to the turn around, headed back with the wind at 22 - 24 mph. Dropped him after a while but he caught up when I stopped.

pretty stout riding.

Any person who selects a goal in life which can be fully achieved has already defined his own limitations. - Cavett Robert

When I chose the first triathlon, I was not sure at all that I would accomplish it.  The same thing for the first Olympic distance.  This was especially true for the first Iron Man race.  I was scared for almost a year.  There did come a point about one month out when I became convinced that it was at least possible.  Incredible goals make life interesting.  They demand the best of us, in this case, both physically and mentally.  It was a huge challenge.  But that's not to say that the first sprint was not also a significant challenge.  Choosing goals that are a little too big give meaning to life.  I haven't shared it, but I have a time goal for this year.  I think it's doable, but race day can bring it's own challenges.

Big lightening storm last night woke me up for a while.  Beautiful lightening, had to go outside and watch for a little while.

long sleep last night 10 hours.

Teeth cleaned today and had lunch with my dentist.  We get along great and I love visiting with an intelligent man.  He says I need to get cable so I can watch cable news.  I'm just not sure it's worth the cost.  Or the turmoil watching all the bad stuff in the world.

Group ride tonight, followed by a brick.  -- except I just got out of bed this morning and left calf cramped bad.  Still hurts.  I'll have to take it easy.   Right Achilles has been complaining as well.  Things hurt a little, so I must be alive.

Rode fast today. Mostly above 20 on the highway. Felt super strong. PB total time on the route, but a lot of that has to do with hitting the traffic and lights right in town. NO WIND today. Wow. And fresh legs.

Forget not that the Earth delights to feel your bare feet, and the wind longs to play with your hair. - Kahlil Gabran

Planned to swim at lunch, but too hungry and didn't get much done this morning.  I'll shoot for the pool at 6:00.

Having fun with the tri group, hope I'm helping them.

Did not make it to yoga last night, or today.  Suppose I ought to face the fact and drop the Y membership.  Thought about trying the Yoga tape I have, but that's not the same as being in a class.  The other studio I thought I might use, also does not have classes at a time I can make.

Got up on time this morning.  Second day in a row.  Now I just need to get to bed on time, and up on time....

Need to be walking at night too.  really helps my foot, and it's good training for the IM.

less than TWO WEEKS TILL BSLT.  ! oh my.   --- I ran in the heat on Sunday.  It was not pretty.  Think I overdid a bit between the hills Fri, brick Sat, then the run hot run Sunday.  Did not do any cooling strategies.

Got the swim in at the end of the day, felt real good.  Walked over to the pool with a little running. also felt real good.  Mountain biked home.  Training is starting to kick in and I feel good.  Maybe it's the taper.
