Relaxing with Alex, poor kid is having tummy issues.  Will try to run a few errands today and clean my bikes (roadie is nasty, the TT bike is in pieces and the moutain bike will have to have a few new parts!)

Bon succès Traci!

Great...
Today's gonna be busy.  A few errands and sucking up plus a spin class (a first!), dinner followed by a VIP ticket to go to a spa with 40 members of the triclub. Should be fun.

The ground is still white.  Everywhere.  I'll try not to kill myself going to work.  Last night was kinda dangerous.  While moving at 1 mph, I managed to get sideways, the car slid from 2 feet to the left, leaving the front of the car 2 inches from the curb.  No fun.

Is it Christmas yet?  Because I got out of the house this morning and it was white, it was windy and cold.  I didn't see Santa though.  Good for him, I don't have my winter tires yet.

Steve's Bermuda's triangle is getting .  I recently found my Polar 725x and last night, my Garmin HR strap was seen somewhere I thought it might be.  So, the only thing remaining in the triangle is my $Guess$ watch...

Hilarious!

It was my second hockey game last night. 2nd win in a row.  I wore my HR monitor just for fun.  2 major observations :
1. Max HR is fucking high for me  -->188.  I don't even go there in a race.   2. Avg of the whole game, including time on the bench, intermissions and 5 minutes after the game, is 149.

October 19

At work all day.  I thought it would be return to calm today but it won't, might be an important one.

There's something I wanted to share for quite some time after my race in Australia.  I didn't really have time to write about the race except that I liked the experience, that it's a different thing to race against the best in the world, that I was a little disappointed of the run part of my race but nothing more than that.

Usually, the night before a race, I don't sleep much.  I wake up often and am always afraid not to wake up on time.  The day before the Worlds, I was pretty nervous and it was interesting to see each other's way to deal with that stress while at the condo.  It went pretty well and no drama occured.  We went to bed at about 10 and had to wake up at around 4h15 or so. For the first time in my life, I laid down my head on the pillow and woke up 2 minutes before the alarm clock.  I didn't wake up, didn't go to the bathroom, didn't have any nightmares (I don't usually do though) or anything.  I was almost  embarassed to talk about it, judging by the faces of my teammates.  One said she didn't sleep at all, the other woke up a few times and usually he's a heavy sleeper! After preparing our stuff we left the condo and arrived on site where we got bodymarked and went to our transition spots.  The 3 others were very nervous, it was pretty obvious.  Something added tension, the water temperature!  When we arrived, the announcer said it was wetsuit legal and that the water temp dropped again during the night.  For me, it wasn't a big deal, in fact it was good news.  It meant I wouldn't overheat if decided to put the wetsuit on, and honestly, I had to put it since my body doesn't deal well with the cold water.  For the others, wetsuit = slower swims so they were very nervous about what decision to make.

The swim start was a 20 minutes walk from the transition area so we didn't go at the same time as the girls.  They did their thing and Pierre and me went for our start 30 minutes later. There was 10 minutes separating each AG start and when we arrived the men were starting so me and Pierre had something like 30 minutes to wait.  We each other went to pee and stretch and decided to find a spot in the shade since even though it wasn't too warm, the sun was incredibly hot.  I didn't put my wetsuit on until the very last minute I could, which means30 seconds before Pierre had to go for his start, the one before mine. I cheered for Pierre a little, went in the water to cool my body and watch their start.  Then, it was my turn. Gulp.

I went in the control area sooner than later even if we had a few minutes to do so because I wanted a spot on the first row with the big boys.  I decided I'd swim "control" without putting too much effort for the first half, even if that meant some of the faster swimmers would have to swim over me.  Bring it on.

So, we're there on the starting line, 115 athletes from everywhere in the world, there's 5 minutes left before the gun goes off.  A lot of people screaming around and a lot of languages I don't understand at all.  Athletes are jumping and getting their gear ready for the race.  I could hear the 2 athletes to my side breath, hard.  And there was me.  Thinking to myself : " Man, this is it.  You worked hard to get here.  Whatever happens today, you're here and nobody can take that away from you."  I remember looking at the view and breathing deeply.  For the first time in my life, I was serene, calm and ready to go.  Let's fucking do this!
