Night time trainer ride.
Flew on the corporate jet to NYC in the morning and spent the whole day in Manhattan for a seminar. Arrived back in Corning in the evening. Starting reading the Total Immersion book while on the 45 minute plane ride. Need to start doing the TI drills in earnest to fight this balance and resistance issue.

The harsh reality of life with out the pull buoy kicked me squarely in the teeth today. After swimming 1500 yards nonstop with the pull buoy last week, I found myself not being able to go more than 50 yards without it today, and needing lots of rest between sets. It seems that I can totally throw out the last 6 weeks or so of swim training where I built up to 1500 yds at one shot with the pull buoy, as I am no better off now than I was 6 weeks ago. I will break out the Total Immersion book again and will work exclusively on the balance and floating drills my next time in the pool. This has got to get easier at some point in time...
Race report is up.

My legs are overall quite sore from yesterdays's hilly race. My quads are sore, in addition to my hamstring. Of course, the quads are a different kind of sore (DOMS), and they'll be back to normal in a day or two. We'll see on the hammy. I had a swim on tap for today, but just didn't seem to be in the mood for it, so I made it a rest day, doing only a core workout before bed. Tomorrow I'll get in the pool without the pull buoy...

With the hamstring flaring up and not healing quickly enough, I said before that common sense told me I should skip this half marathon and not risk more serious injury. Of course I ran it anyway. Well this lack of common sense saw me shatter my modest goal of 1:50, and handily surpass my pie in the sky goal of 1:45, with a time of 1:43:38! Needless to say I'm quite pleased, but the next few days will really tell how pleased I am, depending on how the hamstring recuperates. All the details will be in the race report which I'll post tomorrow.

After running easy yesterday, the hamstring seemed to tighten up on me, and I can still feel it today. As it stands now, common sense would tell me that I probably should not race on Sunday. However, I guess I'm lacking common sense. Obviously there will be no running unitil Sunday, and I'll reassess at that time. I had hoped to get a 1650 yard swim in today, but work is intervening and it doesn't look like I can get to the pool for lunch.
