Distance is about 1/4 mile off because I didn't start it right away when we left, but that's okay. Just an easy recovery ride out to the 162nd St exit and back on HWY 2. I told her we should ride to the lake and back and she insisted on riding on the highway. *shrug* At least she rode side-by-side with me this time instead of insisting on going single file!

Just ordered a Pearl Izumi select tri suit and opted for the expedited shipping so that it will be here on Wednesday and I can try it out before race day. Pretty exciting!! Did an easy ride with Brynn this morning to shake some of the cobwebs out. My throat feels about 10% better, so that is promising. I expect the improvement to increase exponentially until the race so that I feel fine on race day, but I'm also doing my part to stay well hydrated and eat very smart (well, as smart as Brynn will allow me to:) --- Drinking a Buff Smoothie for lunch to both help with weight maintenance/loss as well as the amazing amount of nutritional benefit of one of these (tons of antioxidants from the blueberries, pomegranate juice, strawberries, and many many vitamins/minerals from all that plus peaches and bananas.) Plus it's tasty, so there's that :)

Youch. My throat hasn't hurt this bad since I had my tonsils taken out. On the bright side, I'm under 204 lbs so that will be nice on race day to have a little bit less weight to have to haul around.

What I figured would happen has happened--I'm sick. That's fine by me, since it's taper time. Better now than in like 5 days or so! Started feeling it last night so maybe that's part of why my run yesterday was a total dog's breakfast. I thought I was going to be able to run the whole 5 miles without any walking breaks, but that went out the window after 10 minutes. I walked again at 20 minutes, then at 2.5 miles (about 23/4-ish minutes), at 30 minutes, and then I walked the on the uphills of the Triple H (Heart Hospital Hills) and ran the rest of the way home after crossing the highway, about a half mile. Got the HR up into the low 180s at the end there (183 I think?). It was just a hot and sucky run and not a confidence booster at all. But now that I know I was already starting the process of getting sick I can hang it partially on that!

Easy recovery ride on The Loop. No seriously--despite the 18.3 mph average it was a pretty easy ride. Garmin tells me I spent over 30 minutes of this ride in Zone 1! Can't believe it. First time on the bike in 6 days and I'm out there rocking it at a low HR/RPE.

I pulled a Scheele and kept it in the big ring the whole time. I also tried to spin a lower cadence than what I normally do. On Zen & the Art of Triathlon the guy was talking about an article he read in Triathlete magazine that talked about how spinning faster may not be the best use of your body's resources and that he tested it out and came up with some pretty interesting results, so I figured I'd try it out today too and I think it's something I'm going to be playing around with some more. Average cadence was 80 RPMs according to Garmin and PowerTap confirms 80 average while pedaling (72 average for the whole ride).

Hey! What's that little green thing in my calendar... :) :) :)

Swam the whole 1/2 Iron distance. Well, technically I was 12 yards short, but that's okay. Started out SUPER EASY because we went to the pool as a family ASAP right after dinner and I had eaten more than I would have had I known during dinner we were going to the pool. Just took it nice and easy so that things didn't come up that didn't need to come up. Was a little burpy but not too bad otherwise. Feeling pretty good that I can hold 1:50s and feel like I'm just chillin, wearing my swim trunks. Really looking forward to seeing how I do on race day.

Ran after dinner on the Heart Hospital Hills (Triple H). Didn't ride because it was rainy/stormy when I would have needed to leave. Cleared up over the next hour and was actually sunny during my run. Weird.

Ready to get back at it! Was thinking about going swimming yesterday but just didn't have the drive to go out and do it. Today is a little bit busier of a day and I have plenty of drive, so we'll see how that works out. Oh also going to do the Wednesday Night Weenies ride tonight.
