Running Room's 20 minute challenge to get a free hat. Ran 30 minutes (from home and back)

It's funny how it only took a good hard ride of the dirty girl for me to get my confidence and energy back and to stop being a sucky baby. 40 k is so easy after 90 k....note to self.
Today I continue to venture out into the unknown.

Bike
  • 1h 18m 42s
  • 40.00 kms
  • 30.50 KM/hr

Decide to do 40. A little breezy, very humid. Was dripping sweat in every direction. Thought about AMG and focused on spinning. Kept Cadence up between 90 and 100 big front gear. Got stronger and faster. Very comfortable, and fast ride.

PM update: Okay! I'm back. A ride on dirty girl was all I needed it turns out.

Aimed to get back into the routine this morning...or at least create a new one.

Didn't happen.

Poor sleep - first wife is back and has been living on 2 hours sleep a night for the past 4 days.

Very hot, the temperature at least.

My alarm is up to its old tricks.

I'm a lazy slob.

I wonder if nachos for breakfast is a bad idea?

July 16

Well,  (edit - the majority of) my tri race season is over.
Wow.
  • One 5k,
  • four multisports (aquathlon, pool Sprint, outdoor sprint, 2/3 olympic (lightning cancellation)
  • two half marys
  • and a half ironman

...who would have thunk.
I have one more half mary to go and then I will hibernate....As if...
I hit all my goals this year - most of which were "to finish" I did more training than I expected, but most of that was of the build endurance to finish variety.
In the next few days I'm going to start coming up with some new goals...many of them will focus on building speed and technique and more endurance work. Building on my core strength...I'm mr. flabby...and balance.
And of course nutrition...I've dropped about 25 lbs since this journey began and I'm not in the mood to gain it back.
I'm also going to spend a little less time online, as my other priorities are banging on the door. Especially family and work. I have a new boss and half of management are new or leaving, that leaves lots for me to do.
First wife needs some prodding to get back into exercising...Child #2 the synchro swimming girl, is interested in triathlon and Child #1 is torn between getting a new piano and getting some track training...hmmm. It is going to be a busy year.
And of course, I have another three months of quality cycling...I'm going to get out there as much as I can, between running and ongoing core training.
Thanks for all you who have helped me come this far...there's no turning back now.

Very strong bike ride, Had to pee 4 times. I don't agree with the posted time...my clock had me at 3:14 and transition at no more than 5 minutes...and bike and run transition still don't add up to that discrepency.
Who cares. I'm happy with ride...read race report.

  • 08m 17s /KM

Oh man that was a dog of a run...worst ever...But I smiled all the way...my legs didn't fall off, I didn't pass out or throw up and I had a great time...slow but happy...just like my first grade teacher used to talk about me. Read the race report.

July 12

6 hour drive to Morden.

I feel like crap. I slept way too much...now I have to sit in a car for 7 hours.

I packed. I counted and recounted my gels and clif bars and elocrolyte powders...I even labeled them: pre swim, bike, run, post and post post....that last one is the scotch flavoured GU.

I packed my super duper Rocket Science Sports tri bag - just as I would need it for race day and included my signature orange yard-size garbage bag in case it rains.

I put my tri shoes away and packed my road shoes and my new goggles and a bathing cap...in case they mess up. Wetsuit, check. Can you tell this is theraputic?

Runners, socks, astrolube, had, helmet, headband check. Garmin/HRM with new battery I bought - hope the damn thing works this time. Towel. race belt. Waterbottles. Asthma drugs. Recovery powder and bars I got some that are not covered in chocolate and wont melt as they sit in my bag. Oh yeah. bike! I greased the dirty girl last night and gave her the once over. She will never let me down.

Okay.

breathe.

I'm going to have some breakfast. Get myself organized and get ready for the drive. I might watch a little of the Tour DES France before I go.

Sunglasses yes. I'll be wearing them in the car.

Thanks for reading my list. Have a nice day. Two more sleeps!
