Stretched out the creeks and the knee.

Afternoon Update.

Due to popular demand, I'm making some mid day comments.

As this is a quasi taper week, I went to a local biker (the hog variety) bar that has really good lunches. I've never been there on Wednesday. As it turns out, Wednesdays are "Lingerie Lunches". Fortunately it was only the waitresses that wore some somewhat provocative outfits. The cook thankfully did not have any bare appendiges anywhere near the food.

The visual entertainment slaked a number of thirsts, as did the aural entertainment - one particular waitress whom I know well, was particularly chatty and interested in sitting and chatting with my dining partner and I. We talked about whether or not flannel would be introduced into the winter wednesday wardrobe (the other www!)

Sadly, my order was messed up (by the cook - and for the first time ever), so I am now eating my (now take-out) food at my desk...I ordered veggie and got bacon pizza.

At this biker bar, one doesn't complain. But the management made it right and worth my while. So all is good.

Every taper day should be this kind of adventure!

6:45 am

After careful and considerate deliberation, I decided to wake up. I then polled the jury for some guidance on the issue of rolling out of bed. It was determined that it would be advantageous to rise and report. Thusly, I find myself here.

Can you tell that the tapering is getting to me again? Knee is a little better, but still not right. Stretching and swimming last night helped.

What's over rested, stiff and sore and has a funny knee?

Well, I don't know what to call it, but it's what I've become!

DAY I of taper. I think I might do an OWS tonight....Nobody tell the first wife I'm tapering, she just thinks I'm working more on family balance.

weeded and tilled the garden, cut down some tree branches, planted a whole bunch of things and sweated a lot. 30 c!

Family Day.

Spent the morning after waking up late doing all sorts of gardening and yard work.

Will spend the afternoon grocery shopping.

Felt good to reconnect with the family.

Terrible run. Just didn't have it in my legs. Couldn't get the turnover and just felt slow. Had to do some walking. It was hot 27 c. I'm just not used to this temperature...Doesn't bode well for Morden, but Adrenalin will kick in there...he hopes. I think I goofed on nutrition and hydration, although I can't imagine drinking any more than I did.

Needed some sleep, I guess. Glorious day out there it seems. Today I want to do the running distance I've been threatening myself with.

Oh, and Happy Canadia day! Raise the flag just a little higher than the beer!

Lumsden hill(half) Missed turnoff with Sttbrn went extra distance, then back down hill to Silton then back up other hill (half) then back to Silton. Didn't do as many hills as I hoped. Some very fast bits...quasi bonked with 8 to go...tired and a little hungry from big gear push against the wind.
Great ride.

Swim

OWS lesson. Mass starts, Sighting practice followed by some nice deliberate distance. Felt fast and sleek.
Cramps in leg while treading water...Was it the bike ride or the lack of electrolytes? I thought I had good on-bike hydration (gatorade and water)

PM Update: Today is horseshoe up my butt day! Let me elucidate with the following exhibits:

  • Took the chance that the bad weather was temporary and drove to Lumsden for 7 a.m. Sure enough, turned out to be one of the best saturdays of the season, albeit windy.
  • Made arrangements with Stbrn who was in from S'toon and had a great, ride with her
  • Starcorp and Trisportnick managed to get over their fear of precipitation and came up and I had the pleasure and honour of riding down Lumsden hill with Nick as he worked to overcome his "block". Way to go Nicko...That was great!
  • Was riding dead-fast and looking dead cool with Starcorp just as first wife drove by on her way to work at Craven...So I looked really cool...but more importantly, I was riding with John. 30 minutes earlier or later and I would have been riding with no men and a bunch of fast women...could you imagine me explaining that...umm, no dear, I don't only ride with women, there are men too, really.
  • Did some kickass speed , nuff said. Max speed 66.6....ooohhh! The Devil's speed!
  • Did some really good OWS including practice with mass starts and the coach commented I had good form...woo hoo!
  • Got groped during the mass start.
  • Got groped going around the buoy.
  • Got some quality gropping in myself.
  • Had a great meal with friends
  • Got stopped by the RCMP for going 140 in a 100 zone. I did my usual polite routine (and meant it) and the constable asked me about my Cervelo and asked if I knew Doug Mackenzie (Race director of next week's local race and Ironman)...and I said I rode with his wife...he let me off with a warning.
So all in all a good day, lucky and all!

So here I am at the crack of stupid (quoth milaminute) wondering about eternity.

It is supposed to be raining and lightning out there and the wind is blowing enough to make someone with an oral fixation proud.

Great day to ponder once insignificance in the great scheme of things...that's assuming the scheme is great.

On tap today...90k bike ride, a bit of a brick, and OWS. Yeah. Right.

PM update.

Felt really blah! Didn't want to do anything, took me an hour to get out of the house, but finally made it out and had a great hill run.

You know, when teachers are done teaching, and they have alcolhol within reach, it is a very scary thing. Spent a good chunk of the wee hours and this morning cleaning strange sticky-sweet "girlie" drink containers from my lawn, living room, basement, roof, under the bed....

Training just wasn't happening this morning.
