Enjoying life one day at a time

my back started to hurt at work yesterday... I thought it was because of sitting wrong at work... but it's not going away. Might have to go see Chiro (this is my ol' low back pain, not fracture site) and get this taken care of. I'm going to see how it responds to me doing the exercises and stretching. I also have to call my RMT and get some massage time.
Tonight there was a meeting with the team I'm riding with at Tour For Kids... there was no one willing to do group fund raising, so I will just have to fumble thru the fund-raising again.
Resting my back today... no exercise... it's a real Catch 22. If I don't exercise, I put on weight. If I put on weight, it is around the middle, which is bad for the back. If my back is sore, I can't exercise. :(

Beautiful morning commute... moon shining brightly, temperature was warm (for March), but the roads were wet from rain overnight. Didn't bother me though, the new rain pants are great for keeping the legs warm and dry. Kept the effort steady but not hard, all small ring.
Had a nice tailwind too, so it felt easy.

Going to be a painful ride home... W35 km/h winds. UGH!
Yup that was just nasty. Head wind all the way home. I had to spin easy but I couldn't, there was just no way I could. It was an unrelenting and uncomfortable wind... direct headwind for 2/3 of the ride and a cross wind for 1/3. Oh well, it will make me stronger right?

Oh and visitation is tonight... not a good day.
Yup, that was a very sad occasion.
To fill you in on this here is the story:
Our friends were married and had unsuccessfully been trying to get pregnant for many years. She was a teacher at a city school and had come to know a couple little kids with a troubled mother. It came up that she was going to give up her children for adoption...and R & R offered to take them. As the adoption went thru, they became pregnant with their own child... and then a couple years later had twins. As far as I could tell (since we haven't seen them much since they had kids) they are truly wonderful parents.
Anders was a caring and loving son... who helped take care of his siblings, and was a responsible young boy. He helped his dad every morning make breakfast, and the other morning he wasn't upstairs yet, when R went down to check on him. He had got himself up and was just getting into the shower when something happened... a sudden brain bleed out. He never recovered... it took a while for his brain to die, but he never regained conciousness. His dad had to perform CPR before the paramedics arrived... he will need a lot of strength now. This loss has affected them greviously.
They have done an autopsy, but they still do not know what happened. He had been healthy and had no complaints. So this was a complete shock to everyone. Answers would be nice, but they will not bring him back. It is just not fair... a parent should not have to bury a child. :(

I neglected to mention that Sweetums threw me a surprise party on Saturday. She had invited all our friends to a "Welcome back party". It's been a long time since we've seen many of them. We had a great time talking, playing pool, and just enjoying our friends. This party was a complete surprise to me... I knew we were going to see some friends and a local pub, but when we walked in, there were a LOT of my friends there ... and our 3 boys... I was shocked! She pulled off a great surprise party. :)

That was a thoroughly beautiful day on the bike... for the most part. The weather was spectacular...+10*C and sunny. There were TONNES of people outside enjoying the weather. I rode with some of the Flying Dogs people that did The Centurion. It was good to be out with other riders again, and we needed everyone, because the wind SUCKED. We rode South, then West directly into the wind. At one point, another group was catching up to us and passed us... but they had dropped a couple guys. I thought I'd be nice and offer a pull back into our group and was doing that, but as soon as we picked up speed, my legs couldn't take it. I pulled these two guys for a km each, but dropped off on the hills, my legs have no power going up hills anymore.
I caught up with them in New Hamburg and decided that when we passed thru Baden I was stopping and going home. I had ridden to the start point, so would have the same distance they did.
laying on foam roller to stretch out the back.
Up until Baden it was reasonably uneventful, (the usual idiots passing to close, or pulling into intersections in front of us) but that is where it fell apart and I had a road rage incident with a car... I lost my cool and broke his mirror. This was after he pulled up beside me and swore at me, telling me to get off the road. He then pulled in front of me and slammed on his brakes... that was the last straw and I slammed his side mirror. After that he then threatened to beat me up... and I offered him to follow me home... while I was pulling out my cell phone. He drove off then... but I reported him to the police. No charges laid, but I agreed I was at fault for hitting his mirror and am going to pay for it... and I hope he got a stern talking to about his actions. The officer did inform him that cyclists have every right to be on the road and ride where ever we want (I had to swerve out to cross a set of rail tracks at 90* in an intersection... which pissed him off). He had been trying to pass us thru the intersection with on-coming traffic.
I don't think I would have reacted so violently if he had just driven away after swearing at me... but swerving in front of me and slamming on the brakes was a deliberate attempt at making me hit him... so I obliged. Damn stupid of me... and I apologized to him and will pay the damages to his car... the police have the report and hopefully nothing more comes of it. I just wish these things would stop happening to me. :(

Busy day at work...
no commuting today either... we had snow flurries off and on all day. It was quite slick out there.... not fit for a fat man on skinny tires.
After work, got home and made supper... homemade pizza. Sweetums and #1 were coming home from T.O. and the traffic was bad, so they were late... which was fine by me, it gave me more time to get supper ready. The other two boys and I ate before they got home, because they were starving... besides, we can only cook one pizza at a time... worked out well, and I made a special 'za for Sweetums, with all her favs. :)
Good movie tonight too... The Lincoln Lawyer. Not bad... kept everyone intrigued 'til the end.
Very sad news today... we heard from M.I.L. that the 13 yr. old son of a friend of ours died yesterday. They thought he was taking a long time in the shower, and when they went to check on him, he was passed out in the shower. He passed away in the hospital. These are all the details that I know, but I am extremely sad... and will not be working out today. :(

so tired of being injured... this new back issue is just not going away. Time to call chiro I think... he usually has me fixed in 6 visits... and that's his goal, to fix you and never see you again. Not your normal Chiro... which is why I like him!
another gorgeous day out today... and I had to sit it out again. I may try tomorrow, but probably not, as we're going out tomorrow night, to YukYuk's... so I'd rather be a little rested... but we'll see.
