Nice easy commute this morning... nice to leave on time for a change. I took it easy on the hills, and stayed in the small ring for most of the ride (all but the long downhill... I have to go fast there or else have drivers pass me ridiculously close. If I'm going fast, they treat me more like a car... I am almost doing the speed limit there). Got into the industrial park and was cruising along, when this SUV buzzed me on purpose... no vehicles coming and plenty of room... yet he came well within the 3' limit. Almost caught him at the stop sign, but he raced out of there... PRICK! (sorry... gotta vent)

The rest of the way it was great. I even had a truck stay behind me in the left turn lane... all the way to the light. It was refreshing to see someone obeying the law for a change. :)

evening commute... have to leave early/on time.. as we have a dinner date with friends. :)

Left 5 minutes early, but the wind was nasty... and the traffic was heavy (amazing what 15 minutes does to clear up traffic)... still made it home in good time. I didn't force the issue with the wind and kept the gearing easy and just spun into the wind.

Had a very nice supper with friends... it's a newer restaurant in the next town. There was limited selection, but what they made was VERY high quality. Delicious and not that expensive... I would go back. :)

Chilly morning... -4*C, but it was a lovely morning. Nice sunrise and pretty calm.

Rode the alternate commute as my normal route is under construction (again... but will be glad when done). This means I have to take a VERY busy road into town... with the 2 km downhill which people don't like sharing the road. This means I ride way out in the lane and force people to pass correctly. Fortunately, the morning drivers are FAR more polite then the evening drivers.

Sigh... worked 20 minutes longer then I should have, so had to rush home. Fortunately, I had a bit of a tailwind and it made for a sort of fun ride. Just opened the throttle and pumped for as long as I could. Made it 3/4 way up most hills before having to gear down significantly. I took a different route home than last night and had better drivers... still a couple nut-cases, but far fewer.

Hope tomorrow is another good day... the weekend looks like a wash out. :(

had to put the pedal down this morning as I decided very late that I was biking today. Fortunately, it was a tailwind and I could maintain the speed without burning out the legs. Flying down the one hill at 55 km/h (2 km long grade, which I have to climb on the way home) and was riding in teh middle of the lane because the speed limit is 70... had one car even wait until it was fully clear to pass me. Good times! :)

This is the actual rolling time... I had to wait at a couple stop lights and 4 way stops for a total of 4 minutes waiting. HRM said 42 minutes, bike computer said 38.

Sucky wind...but not a bad ride. Wind was a LOT less than it was yesterday.

Had several closer then required, or idiot drivers tonight. Really stupid people... enough said.

Swim

Went for a wee swim in the new pool... I really need to do this more often. Was a little strapped for time, so didn't get my full workout in, but still it was a good swim.

w/u: 2x (1x50 ez FC, 1x50 ez BS)
build: 2x (1x50 - 4 strokes FC, 4 strokes head up FC -w/ fins, 1x50 - streamline kick w/ fins) supposed to be 3x... not enough time
m/s: 2x400 FC steady
no c/d as the pool was closing

really enjoyed the 400m sets, after the first 200 was done... that's when I got into the groove and felt good. The first 200 felt sorta hard... but as soon as my breathing settled down and my HR leveled out... then it felt like I could do that speed for a long time. Have a lot of work to do, but I believe I'll be able to at least do Aqua/bikes this summer... if not tris. :)

massage therapy with EPB... she worked me over well and we had a nice talk. My low back was a little tight this morning after the run yesterday, but she thinks it was my tight hamstrings. Everything else felt good to her (she did find some good knots though... ouch).

Busy morning... first thing this morning was my massage. After I finished there, it was a quick drive back home to our town and have my first cheque up with the local Optomitrist (just opened her practice... very lovely lady, with her husband as receptionist and day-care for 10mo daughter). We had a great first meeting and nothing has changed in my eyes since last check up 2yrs? ago... so I can order contacts online again.

Following the eye check up... I headed home, got my swim gear and headed to the pool. It was such a long appt. though (most of it spent chatting about life in general and not my eyes), that I only had 1/2 hour of swim time left for lane swimming at the local pool. Of course, that's plenty for me at this point, as I need to build my stamina again and having more time would have been made me feel like I should swim the entire time.

After that, came home and had some lunch with Sweetums after she woke up from her slumber... only 1/2 sleep for her after her last night shift. Spent an hour with her, and started my wash, then went and picked up the boys at school so I could take #2 to work. Have to pick him up later tonight after he's done as well. Daddy taxi to the rescue!

Won't be biking today though... unholy wind out there... blowing at 40 km/h gusting to 80... it's unreal!!!!!! :o

Run

Just a little run this morning before having to begin my driving duties. Took it pretty steady, with walk breaks as I needed... first one after 7 minutes, then 5 minutes, then 3 minutes... walk breaks were 30-50 seconds. Overall a pretty nice effort and the legs feel find. No pain in the achilles... no soreness at all there (thank the goodness). I think I will start running regularly again... this felt good. :)

Sweetums is working nights this weekend... and she had THE busiest night ever last night... the Dr's just don't understand that they can't have their test results immediately... half the lab is still closed. So, instead of waiting patiently, they order MORE tests... it's absolutely insane. I know the Dr's are under pressure to find out the issues... but bogging down the system with needless testing isn't helping the matter at all.

Due to the fact she is sleeping during the day, nothing much happening here. #2 has his last in class drivers ed session today. We drove all the way there, only to realize he forgot his homework and book. So I left him, drove home and back (in the full out rain) to get this for him.... the things we do for our kids.

Won't be riding today as the weather is craptacular! Full on rain expected all day (not a bad thing, because we haven't had a lot of rain this spring) so it will be a lazy day. I started my run with no rain, but half way thru it started... was only sprinkling by the time I finished. Was raining lightly when my son drove to Kitchener, but it was a full on rain by the time I had to drive home at speed. Fun times! Maybe I'll go for a swim before I have to pick him up this afternoon... maybe. :)

No HR info... not even sure of time and distance. Don't care, was good to be out on the bike.

Rode home from getting haircut... was thinking about riding a little longer, but the skies opened up, so I just went home to dry out... and spend time with Sweetums. :)

No HR, time distance a guess. Tough little headwind though.

Interesting "conversation" with the individual who buzzed me on the road just out of town... let's just say he will never change his attitude, unless he kills someone. I'm going to write a report to the police and send him a copy as well. Seems they only get the point that HE is responsible for passing other vehicles safely... no matter what the vehicle is... if the police are involved. He couldn't stop swearing at me long enough for me to say anything... was very odd. Someone must have pi$$ed in his Cheerios this morning or something. :o

Morning commute finally... was starting to go into withdrawal. Was an easy feeling ride, a little chilly, but I felt stronger than I have in the past this year (still not as strong as last year though).

Nothing special done, just rode steady and used whatever gear felt comfy. :)

Evening commute... into the wind, with a large pack on my back, full of cold weather clothes from the morning.

Made pretty decent time, considering. Had a shadow for the entire ride... I even took it easy for him to catch me... but he never did. Every hill I would be pulling way ahead, it didn't matter how slow I went on the flats. No worries, was kinda fun having some one try to catch me. :o

Now I see why it took so long to get my next commute in... it was the 13th commute of the year... quite fitting to do it on Friday the 13th though. Laughing

Notice that speed  for the morning?? Well it's going to be significantly lower going home, for a number of reasons:

  1. It's mostly uphill going home (downhill coming in)
  2. It's going to be into the wind (was calm this morning, but what wind there was, was at my back)
  3. I had to wear so much gear going in, to stay warm, that my knapsack is going to be a sail going home.

Oh well... it's a beautiful day! Who cares, I'm riding my bike!!!!
