Just a quick little run around the block in town. I didn't have much time for a ride, so satisfied myself with a quickie.

Steady pace run... no pick ups, no slow downs. Felt pretty good... except for the heat. Still stinkin' hot and humid here. Looks like my heart and lungs can handle this, but the legs are pretty used up. Need to work on strengthening them for the run again. At least they're not having to push heavy weight anymore... down another couple pounds (of water) from yesterday. ;)

Single gear spin... had to downshift on biggest hill in order to get out of vehicles way. Coasted down all hills as I was spinning out. Quite warm out there... 23*C --33 with the humidity-- felt like I was riding thru a waterfall. Very, VERY wet. :o

Well....that was uncomfortable ride home. 34*C and a humidex of 39... I was cooking on the road. I was planning on riding easy anyway, but I couldn't push at all, my legs had no pop at all.

That was the hardest, easy ride ever.

Took it mostly easy, in small gears. That is until I reached the city limits, when I have to pick up the speed in order to be afforded any respect on the road by cars. If you're going fast enough, and in the lane far enough, they will treat you as a car.... for the most part.

Humid ride this morning... not hot yet, that's coming this afternoon. Should be a "fun" ride to the doctor then home. :(

Gentle ride to doctor's appt. Very light and easy, so I wasn't sweating excessively.

Body is starting to come around... I believe I'm back to the weight I was when I crashed. I still want to loose the spare tire I have going on, but I like the fact that I'm not over 100kg (220#). I was at the pharmacy on Tuesday with #2 (waiting for prescription for him) and we used the BP machine... he is in the optimal range (117/73, 68 bpm) which doesn't surprise me, he's in great shape. I slipped my arm in the cuff and relaxed... totally relaxed. I knew from my physical recently that it's not high BP... so wasn't surprised when it showed up (117/72, 45 bpm). <-- yup you're reading that right... resting heart rate of 45... I'm almost dead! ;)

Morning commute... using the busier route because my normal route via Huron is now impassable due to contstruction. This will be for the rest of the summer, so I will have to leave earlier to miss most of the stupid shift workers that really don't care about allowing cyclists room on the road.

Was cycling pretty easy, took it easy up most hills and spun easily for the most part. Used big gears, but wasn't pushing hard... felt pretty good.

Hope the wind isn't as bad as they're forecasting... and the heat isn't as bad either.
Wind was bad, but not horrible...temp was HOT. Made for a sweaty ride home. I didn't push hard, just stayed moving forward. Difficult route home thought, with several long climbs into the wind.

Pool swim... to stretch out the back and loosen up some muscles. Decided that I would do a couple TT for use on Swimplan.com. It's been a long time and those old times are too fast for what I'm capable of now.

Did some w/u... front ez, bs ez, front ez.
drilled some pulling with buoy... then I was ready

First TT... 100m Breaststroke. I did what was asked and took it steady not sprinting. Time 2:00 even.... heart rate was a little elevated, but that was probably due to not warming hard enough. Took a 1 min breather then started on the 1000m TT front stroke. I did this counting laps in my head... and I hope I got it right (I am pretty sure I did, was concentrating on not losing count). After the first 500m, I checked the watch and I was at 13 minutes and change... I thought I can keep that pace up, so worked a little harder to make sure I didn't slow. Finished the TT in 26:45... pretty much even paced thru the entire distance. I'm quite happy with that... it's slow, but manageable and I could do that for another couple hours if I had to. Wasn't tired at the end of it... not bad for not swimming much in the last couple months. :)

What a beautiful day for a ride... was cool and calm this morning and as the hours passed the temperature went up (as did the wind). Still was a lovely day... temperatures reached 29*C by the time I finished and have only gone up from there. Wind wasn't too strong and I was able to ride where comfortably any where. I still headed out into the wind and had tailwinds home though.

Rode out towards Stratford area... then up thru Milverton to Conestoga Lake. Came back thru Linwood, Heidelberg, Bamberg, Wellesley and back to Baden. Was a great big loop thru my old stomping grounds... even went past my old elementary school... in the middle of no where... brought back some memories.

Early in the ride, I was thinking that I may be going too fast... but I didn't slow down, just kept pedaling. Never really pushed huge gears and kept the cadence in the high 80's and 90's. A few times spinning at 100 for longer periods. Felt pretty solid and quite comfortable. Hydration was pretty good... could have been a little more measured and consistent, but I never felt dehydrated. Nutrition was excellent as well. I stopped twice to fill up with water (had NUUN tablets with me) and guzzled a Coke both times. The rest of my nutrition was two Clif Bars and on pkg of Clif Shot Blocks. Didn't feel that hungry when I finished... but probably could have used a little more solid food.

Great ride and wonderful day... the roads were very quiet as today has most people are off due to Canada Day falling on a Sunday.

A couple issues on the bike... the chain came off as I was taking off from a stop sign, crossing a major highway. I was fortunate to be able to stop before I was out on the highway... and able to walk the bike off to the side and put chain back on. Gotta remember to downshift BEFORE I come to a stop.
Had a redneck pass me in his truck, as we were going thru a little town. I was descending the hill at over 50 km/h... which is the speed limit... and riding in the middle of the road to prevent him from passing me. He passed anyway, even though he couldn't see if any cars were coming. I just could NOT believe it.
Had a group of motorcycles actually go single file, before they passed coming towards me... it was a new and refreshing experience.

That is the good, the bad, and the ugly of my ride. ;)

Went to the beach with our friends... had a great time relaxin' with some fun people. Went for a 20 min swim... no goggles, no wetsuit, no worries. Swam out 300m or so.. then back in. Had a hard time swimming in a straight line, but that was to be expected having my eyes closed most of the time. The swim was good... no issues with the back and I felt strong swimming again. The stamina is a little lacking, but I'm ok with that... that's just a matter of putting in some time in the water. :)

At friends house near Owen Sound... with a dozen other people. Went out to the beach and enjoyed some adult time... no kids allowed.... except for the big ones that were all there. ;) LOL

Enjoyed Canada day with these folks, then headed home after supper... could have stayed another night, but we wanted to get home to our boys. :) It was a great weekend... really don't want it to end.... oh wait, I have another two days off! :o
