Had a fantastic ride today.  Great organization.  Lots of freebies and goodies, good support and all you can eat pizza at the end. :)  Perfect weather although it did get a bit breezy.

Not going to do a race report, since it was not really a race and I don't have all that much to say about it. :)  Rode the first couple miles with Fred, who didn't really want to ride much, but think he wanted to be able to say he rode something.  I've got to start getting him out more so he can start enjoying riding as much as I do.  Anyway, after I left him, I started riding at a comfortable effort.  Was easily maintaining a 17 avg.  A girl passed me and I used her for the rabbit for several miles.  Was hitting 17-19 until she pulled off.  Just as well,  I knew I was going out a little harder than I should have.  Man, I felt good! First rest break at 10 miles - I went through that one.  Second rest area at 20 miles.  I stopped for a banana and stretched my legs a bit.  Ride back to the first rest stop for the 30 mile point.  I started getting tired at this point and the wind was picking up.  I stopped to stretch, eat and pee.  Probably had about 15 minutes at this stop.  Although I did drink a bottle of Infinit, I knew at this point I hadn't eaten enough.  Had a Little Debbie and a jelly sandwich, which immediately shot sugar through my veins. Felt like I had an IV of caffeine or something.  :) Back on the bike and headed back to the 2nd rest stop.  This stretch felt better, think I had a cross-tail wind at this point.  Didn't stop at the rest area, just turned around and headed directly into the wind.  ouch.  Another turn had me in the trees which helped to cut the wind a bit.  I became really inconsistent at this point and started eating everything I had with me.  Some sort of lemon power gummies, peanut butter crackers, a gel, more Infinit.  Felt a little better, but it came too late.  Went through periods when I was totally exhausted, then happy and feeling good.  Heart rate stayed good all day, but the legs were really working hard on the last 20 miles.  Everything from my biceps to my back, to my legs hurt.  When I finally passed the final rest stop, I knew that I only had 10 miles to go and I was happy again.  I swear those last few miles felt like they took an hour! Thought I'd never hit the end, but finally pulled in for a successful finish.  I was one tired girl.  One of my first thoughts was how happy I was to finally have an "official" metric under me, but also how difficult its going to be next year to run a 1/2 mary after I get off the bike for 56 miles.  I've got a lot of work ahead of me. No question.  Need to work on pacing myself better and not going out so hard at the beginning just because I feel good.  I need to keep feeling good for 50 miles, so lets not blow it all in the first 20.  My other thought was how happy I am that my "A" race coming up is only a 25 mile bike and 6 mile run.  Heck, I can do that easy! :)  Isn't it funny how perspectives change?

I had a great time out there today!  Running late, so more later.  Total time including transitions was 1:42:38 and holy crap, look at that run time! :)  Hopefully we'll have wifi at the campground and I can catch up, if not, more tomorrow.....

So I'm about 2 minutes into watching the pre-opening ceremonies last night and I've already snottin' all over the place.  "It's not the triumph, but the struggle."  What a great way to open a contest between so many talented athletes.  I'm going to take that 5 minute clip and use it for some serious motivation this winter.

Race day!  I'm ready to get out there and do it! :)  Good luck to everyone else racing this weekend as well!

Namaste Yoga - Sun Moon Link

Don't the olympics get you revved up?  I swear I could spend all day on the website just scheduling what I want to record.  Think I've settled on prime-time coverage, (which should take care of the gymnastics, swimming, track & field & volleyball) road cycling (tomorrow), Womens Marathon (8/17) Womens triathlon (8/18) Mens triathlon (8/19) Mens marathon (8/24).  So many options, so little dvr space.... ;)

Resting up for the upcoming fun-filled weekend.  Local mini-sprint here in town tomorrow.  Very fun to race on the same streets I train on.  No time goals.  Just going to have a good time and see what my body will do.  After the race, a shower and lunch, then its a 3 hour ride north to be in place for Sunday's metric century. I've heard that the World of Wildlife tour is a great ride with some good rest/food stops and pizza and chocolate chip cookies at the finish.  Nuff said. :)  I do have a time goal of 4 hours for Sunday, so I'm going to forgo the long leisurely breaks and try to simulate race conditions a little more closely.

I made blueberry/rhubarb crisp yesterday.  YUMMY! It was a perfect finish to the corn/tomatoes/green bean dinner.  Oh, and I had my first local peach yesterday! Doncha just love all the fresh fruits and veggies this time of year ? :)

10 minutes is better than 0 minutes

Thanks to jenneunc for giving me that extra push to get in the pool today.  Never gonna get better if I don't get wet, right?  Also since Chrisrunzs26 and JungleJenn are ROCKIN' the core workouts,  and I feel guilty for continuing to blow mine off, I'm going get that in tonight as well. Isn't it great to have friends here to motivate you to get moving? Thanks guys! :)

Wow, that felt like a real run out there this morning! :)  Was supposed to swim after the run, but totally blew it off.  Even had my bag packed and in the car with me, but didn't want to take the time to do it.  I'm in the mood to clean the house today, and I was ready to get back home and get to it.  Doesn't happen often, I need to take advantage of the urge when it strikes. ;)  May swim later.  May not.  We'll see how things go.

Short run and swim on the schedule today.  Need to get the camper preped to head out after the race on Saturday.  We're going up to Mosquito Lake and spend the night close to where I'll be doing the metric on Sunday.  It will be much more fun riding home in comfort after the long ride rather than having to drive myself home three hours.  Weather is looking to be perfect this weekend. Mid  70s and sunny.  Can't ask for much more. :)

OMG, what a fantastic day out there today!  I heart my bike SO MUCH! :)  Fred adjusted it so I could get into the "granny gear" (it hasn't been working) and I took it out to make sure it would work in case I needed the extra gears for the weekend.  It was perfect!  He's so smart! You know, I bought my bike Christmas 2005 and spent much of 2006 and 2007 just hating it.  Things seemed to change for me when I signed up to do GOBA without any earthly concept of how I was going to get through the miles.  It's all in the attitude.  You set a goal and you go get it. :)

Got my dates for the 2009 GOBA yesterday.  June 20-27.  Think it may work perfectly as training for the HIM in July. Fred wants to do it again, so I think we're going! :)  Don't know why I'm so worried about the perfect training plan, I'm not going to follow it anyway. ;)  Yesterday I was looking at the 12 week Olympic plan that I selected for the Buckeye Challenge, and while I haven't been following it "to a T", I've done a good job getting most of the workouts in. Well, getting the time in, maybe not the exact workout I'm supposed to do.  I think its important for me to select a plan that I like and adjust it to fit into my life.  It would be a different story if I wanted to be competitive, but since my goal is to go out and have ALOT of fun training and in the process get to the finish line,  I'm not going to worry so much about it.  Like Fred always says, "You're going to do what you damn well please anyway."  Yes, I guess I am.  :)  That being said, I am going to find a way for the 20 week HIM to work for next spring.   Yesterday I was reading a thread it the forums about the difference in performance by getting the training in and getting focused training in. Maybe I'll feel differently as I move towards the Ironman, but I'm okay with just getting the time in right now.

Water was COLD this afternoon!  Had trouble relaxing.  I was well into my main set before I got in a groove.  When I was doing cool down, a guy got in a lane a couple down from me, and man was he smooth.  Nice relaxed stroke, kick and body rotation were in perfect synche.  It was so amazing to watch him.  I did a couple extra Kick on side drills, just so I could watch him under the water.  One of these days..... sigh.

Took it really easy on the run this morning.  I didn't feel the slightest twinge in my back.  In fact, I felt darned good out there running in the rain.  Sometimes I wonder if you pay attention to things more when you sit around doing nothing.....  Cut the run short due to bathroom issues.  By "listening to my body"  I KNEW that if I didn't stop immediately, there would be trouble.  So I stopped. :)  Don't mind cutting the workouts a little short this week.  I read on someone's blog recently, "sometimes less is better" and it seemed appropriate. :)

I've had enough of this "rest" crap.  ;) I'm ready to get back to work!  Swim and run on the agenda today.  Back is not 100%, so I'm going to play it by ear on the run.  I have no idea how my back will react, so if I have any problems during the run, I will stop.  No need to make things worse at this point.  Thunderstorms are heading this way.  I need to head out the door and get my run done NOW before they arrive.

I spent alot of time yesterday looking at plans.  I REALLY like the HIM 20 week plan, but I just can't find a way to fit it into my schedule with tax season.  More thoughts on this later.

August 4

Yes, yes, yes. I'm taking a rest day!  (Boy are there some naggy people here!) ;)  Actually, I considered going over to the pool to do my drill work, but my shoulder is a little sore  from doing woodchoppers with the medicine ball, so I'll let everything rest. Back is much, much better this morning.  I can stand up straight without a 30 second delay and I have just a little twinge.  SO, I should be able to resume beating the crap out of myself tomorrw.  (kidding - lighten up) ;)  Actually, this is a rather light week for me since I have a tri on Saturday and a ride on Sunday, so I should be fully functional and rested by then. :)  Spent yesterday watching old chick flicks, You've Got Mail, Six Days, Seven Nights, and Regarding Henry and working a jigsaw puzzle from my recliner.  Fred was in the same room watching movies with me and scanning old slides.  Fun, lazy day. :)  I took a couple good stretch breaks and after my longer yoga session last night, the back was feeling good better.  It's inexcusable for me not to stretch more.  It's important to this aging body of mine.
