Building a lean & fit me - one bite at a time

Light rain through the entire walk, but not unpleasant. Legs were ready for a break 5 miles in, but overall, felt pretty good. Feet are sore, but I could go out and do this again today if I wanted to.
Happy Mother's day! Pretty happy with the weekend walking, especially considering that so many other things are going on this weekend. Would have been happier this morning keeping it to 5ish miles and doing a second walk, but I didn't figure I'd get the 2nd one in, so I went a little longer. Next weekend should be calmer and I'll be able to play with shorter multiple walks.
Taking our mothers out for brunch. Going to a beautiful country club. Too bad its raining. The views from the patio are truly spectactular. Plan to laze around when we get back home.
Had a decent week on the weight loss front. Feel like I ate more than I should have, but still managed to drop another pound, so I'm happy. The added mileage is definitley helping.
Finally decided on a camera. Played with them in the store and found that the Canon was much easier for me to navigate than the Nikon. Ordered a very pretty green Canon SX260 HS with a 20X zoom. Very excited to get it and start playing with it!

Really pretty country loop. Rolling hills with lots of animals. Very nice! Did this all in one stretch. Felt pretty good. A couple of times I had throat pain going up hills and I smiled knowing that this may not be an issue very soon. Feet held up fairly well. No blisters, but they are achey. Will be interesting to see how they feel in the morning. Shooting for another 8 before brunch tomorrow.
Went to a Masonic dinner last night. Also something I wasn't overly thrilled to attend. I just don't get the whole Mason thing, but Fred is heavily involved, so I smile and nod a lot. Last night I sat with another lady, who I could tell immediately was a lot of fun. Her husband is the grand poopa, or whatever you call them. We ended up having a great time together. Almost made it worth attending. lol

Core/shoulders
Surgery is scheduled for May 22. My GI doc was so enthusiastic about having it done that I decided to just do it and be done with it. Before my appointment, he had already discussed the situation with the Otolarngologist and was convinced that this was going to fix my problem. He was so excited that I couldn't help but to get caught up in his enthusiasm. The throat doc thinks that I'll be able to tell a difference immediately and that I will be out walking in just a couple of days after the surgery so it shouldn't affect the WAO. The thought of going to Costa Rica and being able to climb up and down the mountain without pain was just too tempting to pass up. I'm really trying not to get myself overly hopeful because there is a chance it won't work, but the thought of being able to get my heartrate up again is pretty exciting. We also discussed how rare it is for my colitis to be so serious and now completely gone without drugs. I keep looking for a reason why it happened and he told me to just let it go and be thankful things worked out the way they did. He's right. Time to quit worrying about what was and move forward.
Our friends who split up last week are in the process of kissing and making up.

Felt pretty danged good out there this afternoon - even without a shot!
I have two doctor appointments today. First is GI doc, then the throat doc. I think I get another throat shot so I'll save my walk for this afternoon and I can see how the walk goes with the area numbed. Just another check to see if I really want to go forward with the surgery.

Lots of very slow paced hills. One, I was going up and the guy in front of me stopped just before he crested because he needed to rest. Sigh. I just about didn't get unclipped in time and plowed into him. All in all, a good ride. Didn't go nearly as far as I thought we were going.
Core/shoulders/stretching
Riding today with a couple of Fred's friends. Should be a perfect easy pace, but probably longer than I really want to go. I'll keep an eye on the distance and if they go too far, I'll head back without them. We'll all have lunch afterwards. Should be fun!

Ahhhh, rest day. I need it. Pretty much everything below the waist is achey. One bad thing about being too busy over the weekend is that I didn't take the time to stretch out properly after I walked and now my hips are so stiff, I feel like the tin man. I'll work on getting them loosened up today. We're taking a little road trip today! Going up north to deliver a lawn mower, visit with friends, and do a WAO route study. Fred is meeting with a friend who is current and qualified in digital ham radio so he can transmit walk updates from the road.
