In Morgantown, WV. Beautiful morning!

Scene from this morning. The mountains in WV are just beautiful. I had planned to do a few more miles when I got home, but was wiped out. Whoda thunk riding in a car for 4 hours could be so exhausting. ;)
Heading down to Pomeroy early in the morning to do a route study. I'm planning to come back home tomorrow night, but am taking a few things just in case I want to stay an extra day. I'm taking the laptop with me, so hopefully I'll get a chance to check in from Southern Ohio.

Ahhhh, back to the grind...... Lots of stuff going on here this week. This afternoon, we'll load up the motorhome and head down to WV. Fred has a Boy Scout camp inspection in the morning, and I'm riding along to keep him company. I started an excellent book called "Unbroken" on the way home from Costa Rica, and I am looking forward to getting back into it. We'll be home tomorrow evening, then Wednesday, I'll head back out to do do a southern route study finalize the WAO route. Friday afternoon, we'll head north for another Boy Scout inspection. In between all of the running around, I need to get some walking in.
Taking a rest day today. I didn't take very good care of my feet in Costa Rica and I've got a nasty, painful blister under a callous. I could walk on it, but I'm hoping by taking a day off, it will have a chance to calm down a bit.
Yesterday, I decided to keep track of the training/nutrition decisions I make and start a trend where I make more good decisions than bad. I'm pretty happy with the way the day went. The worst decision I made yesterday was my breakfast food choices. Let's see what I can do with today.

Feeling rough out there this morning. Too much beer last night/too much breakfast this morning. Totally my own fault. Strategy was to just put one foot in front of the other and get some miles in. After the first couple, I really didn't struggle much until around mile 4 when I needed much more fluids than I had with me. Heat/sun really bothered me today - also a consequence of too much fun, I suspect. ;) Glad I got it in. Going to repeat this afternoon.
Was not in the mood to walk this morning, but I talked myself into it and of course, now that its done, I'm glad I did it.

Something screwy with these readings. For the life of me, I can't figure out how if I walk out 3 miles, the return trip on the exact same route is only 2.67. Also know that I was moving faster than this.
Anyways.... Had a beautiful morning and amazing scenery. Really doesn't get any better than this! :)

Almost traded this for a nap in my new chair. Fun to be back on my normal turf again. :)

Pushed hard for this one. Went through a bottle of gatorade & a bottle of water and felt like that was a good mix. Stayed hydrated, but didn't have to stop and pee. Ended up with a blood blister - same spot that's been giving me trouble. Grrrr.
I've been rummaging through old training logs this morning searching for something, and it made me realize how much I miss being anal about things. We are leavng to a boy scout camp inspection tomorrow afternoon and I was trying to find where we stayed the last time we went to this camp. Turns out it was just a week or two before my half ironman and my biggest criteria for a place to stay was getting a good swim in. I miss those days. I really love being anal and driving everyone in my life crazy with my training and eating schedule. lol!
For day 4's route, I hit a road I did not like, but I was too tired to figure out a way around it, so I came on home. This means I'll need to make one more trip down south to get things figured out. It is definitely worth spending the time to get a route that makes me happy, rather than just blindly picking some road off a map.

I now have a start location for WAO. I'll be starting at the Pomeroy amphitheater boat ramp so I can get my toes wet before heading across the state and then getting my toes wet on the opposite side. A local friend knows a priest with a church in Pomeroy and he offered to let us park there. Turns out it is about two blocks from the start and the lot overlooks the river. Very nice! Found another church parking lot in the first town we'll be stopping in. Its right on the route and has wifi! I stopped in and spoke to the minister and he'll let me know for sure, but didn't think there would be any problem with our parking overnight. From there, we'll head deep into the forest. When I was driving one of the proposed route roads, gravel, I got a little nervous about how difficult it might be for Fred to take the motor home through. I found a remote horseman's camp area off the road though and figured he'll love driving through as much as I'll enjoy walking.
So glad I made the trip yesterday. I spent much of my time lost on day 3's route. I finally found a road that made me smile and say, "Yeah, that's what I had in mind"
