Building a lean & fit me - one bite at a time

Favorite country loop. Good thing I wore short sleeves. It got warm out there. Beautiful morning!
Went out with friends last night. Had waaaay too much beer, (translation, 3. lol!) but lots of fun! They have a larger motor home and offered to meet up with us on the walk so we could plug our little old motor home into their big fancy one to get power. We'll stay mostly at campgrounds with electric, but there are a few nights we'll be roughing it on the side of the road or in a small parking area with no electric available. Our motorhome has the generator in the rear right by the bed, so sleeping having electric is not a simultaneous option.

Wasn't feeling this. Almost stopped early, but decided I felt just as good walking as I would feel doing anything else, so I wandered around town.
I'm doing pretty decent on nutrition these days. I don't know why getting back into doing some strength training on a regular basis is so difficult for my little pea brain to wrap itself around. I know once I start, I'll be fine. That first step keep eluding me though. Lots of excuses.....
Withdrew from the AF Marathon yesterday. Methinks trying to achieve and maintain a 16 minute mile pace for 26.2 miles isn't in my best interest. Think its time to focus energy in other areas. I'm not exactly sure what that will be, but I have a feeling I can come up with some worthy adventures to fill my time!

One week from today, I leave for Costa Rica!! I am very excited, but I have so much to do this week. You know all of those times I said I was going to work in the office? Well, I didn't and now I have a ton of work to get done before I go. It would also be nice to generate some income to pay for the trip. ![]()
Today is our 16th anniversary. Hard to believe we lived together so long and still genuinely like each other (most the time!)
Feet are puffy and sore from weekend walking. Need to remember to ice bath when I finish walking. I think it helps with some of the inflammation. I've been stretching a lot and it has nearly eliminated the other issues I was having. Feet are still my weak link, but they are definitely toughening up. WAO walking mileage is:
Day 1 - 20
Day 2 - 13.5
Day 3 - 17.5
Day 4 - 15.5
Day 5 - 14.3
Day 6 - 17.7
Day 7 - off
Day 8 - 17.1
Day 9 - 17.2
Day 10 - 14.4
Day 11 - 15.3
Day 12 - 17.5
Day 13 - 16.8
I was originally thinking that I'll do 4-5 increments of 4-5 miles each day, but am now leaning towards getting a longer 6-8 mile start to the day then a couple 4-5 milers so I have more time to rest in the afternoon.
Fixed turkey meatball pitas last night for dinner. There are leftovers in the fridge and I can't stop thinking about them. They'll be lucky to last the day in there, even though they're slated for dinner tomorrow night. ![]()
Strength training on tap today. First time in I can't remember how long that I've worked my upper body. I'm looking forward to it!

Gorgeous morning out there! Everything (almost) about this was good. I felt comfortable and happy the entire distance. It was 60ish degrees when I started with a nice breeze and the scenery was so pretty! The one thing that didn't go so well was testing the radio out for the first time. I had contact once with Fred then lost him and he could not see me on the GPS or talk to me. We'll try again after lunch.
Same route as this morning and it felt nearly as good! Got a little tired towards the end, but finished strong.
Thought I was doing really well on nutrition yesterday. Until late in the day, when I blew it. Think I was too light on calories early on and that made me want to stuff my face later in the day. Tomorrow I start strength training again and that normally sends smarter signals to my brain about what to eat. Read the abs diet Friday, which gave me some great snack ideas. Don't know about some of their recipes - they tend not to be as clean as I'd like, but still some great ideas and a good concept over all with the power 12 foods that you should eat.
Nuts/Almonds
Beans
Spinach/Green veggies
Oats
Eggs
Turkey/lean meats
LF Dairy
Peanut butter (natural)
Olive oil
Whole grain breads & cereals
Protein Powder
berries
Pretty common sense stuff overall.
Ok, enough procrastinating. First walk is just under 7 miles. Be back soon!

Fun 5k. Before it started, survivors with blood cancer we were rasing money for walked a mile. Very emotional and humbling.
Walked through the mansion lined streets in East Columbus by the park where the 5k was held. Very cool to see and wonder how much they were worth. Tired!
Starting the morning with a 5k, then a couple of 5 milers. Relaxing this afternoon. Spent much of yesterday reading the Abs Diet, which has me fired up to get myself in great shape! More when I return.....
