Doing some more route study today.  I have a section of WAO that I'm not happy with, so I'm going to search out an alternative route.

Watched a great show on Universal Sports last night called Inside Endurance.  Evidently its a new series.  This episode was on recovery.  It's on again tomorrow night.  I'm recording it.

I don't know if its the surgery, the fact that I quit taking one of my meds, or what, but I feel a definite upturn in how I feel.  It was very encouraging on the bike yesterday to get up some hills and put a little effort in that I haven't been able to in the past.  I really think if I buckle down, clean up my diet and start a little strength training, I'll see a noticeable difference in my performance abilities.  I'm getting the itch to do another triathlon. ;)

Good ride for me. Legs are definitely feeling stronger. Doing a bit better on the hills as well. Perfect riding weather this morning!

Riding this morning.  Group lunch, then getting things straightened up in my office this afternoon.  Crazy how quickly things pile up.  Not in the mood to shuffle paper, but I want it done and out of the way before we leave on the walk.  Thinking about making one more run down south tomorrow to change the section of the route I don't like.  Next week, I'll take Fred with me on a run-through so he can see the whole thing before the real event.  Its just crazy how quickly time passed.  I don't feel nearly as prepared as I want to be, but I'm going to try and concentrate on having a good time and not worrying about it. Sending out the press releases today and ordered the banners to put on the motorhome yesterday.  Still need to get the rest of the posters put up, and start thinking about what I'll need to take with me, but I think the bulk of the work is done.

Reading "The Long Walk" again.  For some sick reason, I read that book before I do a long run/walk event.  Motivation?  I was in sports heaven yesterday.  Recorded an Austrian olympic distance triathlon, watched part of the TdF, (time trials = yawn), swimming, and gymnastics.

Made an appointment with my sports doc for Thursday.   I figure I can have him check the toe out, let him know what is going on and that I really need to be able to participate in this event and he can do what needs to be done to get me through.  I'm pretty sure he'll understand where I'm coming from and do what he can to get me where I need to be.

Got power back last night.  Time to get back to normal. (as normal as we get around here anyway )  Went out for a short 2 mile walk this morning.  Toe joint is still painful, but better.  May try a little modification to my shoes and cut the insole part out around the toe and see if that helps.  Really wanted to walk more today.  It's so pleasant out and I wanted to keep going.  Don't want to screw things up with the toe though when I've got less than 2 weeks to go for the walk.  I guess things would be too boring if they went as planned, huh?

Discovered this morning that TdF is already on Stage 9 and I haven't seen any of it.  Had a hard time finding it since its always been on Versus and this year its on the new NBC sports channel.  When I turned on the channel this morning, the Western States 100 miles race was being shown and tons of olympic commercials.   So motivating!

Busy day ahead.  Need to catch up on laundry, get some WAO stuff done that didn't get done last week.  If I'm dilligent this morning, I may be able to fit in a bike ride this afternoon.  I really enjoyed being out on the bike yesterday.  Need to start doing that more.  My fitness is really gone.  I'm going to work hard over the next few months to get it back.  I owe it to myself.

Fun ride. I needed it! I worked in a couple of respectable hills this afternoon. Didn't walk once. Came close, but I powered through the suckers. ;)

Now posting from my own office and computer. We have power! :)  A/C is on.  It is currently 86 in the house.  If we can't get it comfortable in here before bedtime, we'll sleep in the motorhome with A/C running.

There are two Alabama Power Trucks parked in my driveway.  They say we'll have power tonight!

Taking my bike out after a quick bite to eat.  Foot is still sore but I want to get some kind of activity in.  I'm pretty sure I can ride without aggravating it.  Going to ride around town and see what's going on.  Should be fun.  It is much cooler today. In the 80s with a nice breeze.

Another day, another cranky Tam. I ran away from home this morning.  I drove around in the car for two hours just to have some a/c.  I really like the heat and I like to sweat, but honestly, this is just ridiculous.  105 today.  I did get excited today to see crews in the area getting trees off power lines, but I guess they are just doing the early stages of work and it could be as late as Monday or Tuesday before we get power.  Today is day 8.  They say 90% of the county will be back up by midnight tomorrow, but apparently, we're in the lower 10%.  We have one last event tonight for Fred's HS reunion.  It is a dinner from 6-9 at an airconditioned restaurant.  Really, the food doesn't matter.  The A/C is the important part. ;)  We had a good time at the bowling alley event last night in spite of the fact that is was only barely less hot in the building than it was outside.  We went for a swim before bed, and that made for a downright pleasant sleeping night.

Going to continue to baby the foot for a couple of days.  Still pretty sore today.  I could have walked, but I figure at this point, the more I push it, the more likely it will be to break down on me completely.  I'm hoping by taking 2-3 days off, then doing some shorter mile segments, I'll be okay to go.  Training for the walk did not go as I planned and now that its here, I feel unprepared.  I'm trying to stay calm and not freak out about it.  I've been through plenty of races feeling unprepared and I've come through just fine.   Trying to keep thoughts positive and move in the right direction.

Got a few miles in this morning. It is crazy hot out there!

Saw some encouraging progress with the power this morning.  Southeast edge of town has power and also a recycle station just a half mile down the road from us.  I suspect the recycle station gets their power from the nearby college because there are still trees and downed lines between them and our house.

Fred and the kids went to a local science and technology museum.  It is nice to have the peace and quiet.  I love my family, I just need a little space. thankyouverymuch.   I stubbed my toe a couple days ago when I was barefoot on the farm and it is being troublesome.  Swollen, slightly purple and painful in the joint where it attaches to the foot.  Didn't notice it much yesterday when I walked, but I sure did this morning.  Going to ice and baby it and see how it feels tomorrow.  I'm close enough to the walk, that I'm going to err on the side of caution and limit miles if I need to.  I'd rather push it harder in two weeks than screw things up now.  Less is more, right?

We have late lunch/early dinner plans, then more reunion festivities with Fred's class.  They originally planned hors oduerves and drinks at a nice inn, but since that inn still has no power, it has been changed to bowling.  Dear lord, this could be dangerous!

Hoped to get 4-5 in today, but storms held me to 3. Great to be back out!

Very happy to get back out on the road today.  It sure is getting cranky at my house!  Talked to the guy in charge of county parks/services yesterday and he told me that he received several complaints about the bike path being closed.  Really?  Most of the county has been without power for a week and you have to call and bitch about the bike path?  Oy.

Thought about heading out tomorrow to finish up my southern route study, but I think lots of places down south are still without power and probably not my best idea to go driving around unnecessarily with lines on the road.  I did go out for a couple of hours this afternoon just to have some a/c.  I went to the grocery story without a list so I could just wander around.  Had our first corn of the season tonight. OMG, was it good. :)

Going to shoot for 5 miles tomorrow and then some higher mileage on the weekend.  Sunday, I'd like to do the radio/motorhome run-through that got cancelled last week.  Not sure though.  No sign of anyone moving trees off the powerlines yet.    Press conference today talked about priorities and there are still 14 systems that power over 500 customers that are next in line.  After that, I think 53 systems that power more than 50.  I'm thinking we're either in the more than 50 group or lower.  I guess we might be lucky to have power back by Sunday at the rate things are going.  Not complaining.  when you walk around and look at the situation, I don't know how that electric company even gets to some of the lines.  When I was on the bike path, homes that yards back up to it had a steady line of downed trees and lines.

I have pictures.  Just need to remember to bring the USB cable with me to the MIL's house next time I want to connect.
