The question is: will this make me faster?

Time at 24.8 miles = 1:14:02 Nice ride early in the morning. It looked like it was finally going to be a day with calm winds so I could really go for a good time. But when I got into the country, the wind was kicking at about 10-15 MPH, so that wasn't going to happen. On the other hand, I didn't give as hard of an effort this time as I did in recent rides, as evidenced by my average HR of 140. I actually rode about 2 more miles than this - when I first started, I got a mile down the road and realized I forgot my helmet! I can't believe I did that, I've never done it before. That's an automatic DQ in a triathlon. I better not make that mistake again. Update on prolonged (10-day) forecast: High/Low 81/60 84/62 76/62 74/59 79/60 78/61 77/61 83/66 85/65 84/65 That takes us through June 9. Those temperatures don't suggest we'll have water temperatures above 78 anytime soon.

The last part of my workout was 200m easy, followed by a sprint for 50m in 45 seconds, repeated x 3. I did this to experiment with changing pace and then slowing down again to resume comfortable (every 3rd stroke) breathing. It took about 50-100m to get my breathing back under control after the accelerations.

Once again, I started running, with a storm off in the distance. The rain started right away, and then the lightning began a few minutes later. I was able to finish the run, but the storm was getting pretty close by the time I got home. It was obviously pretty muggy and wet, and not a very enjoyable run.

Walked for about 4 hours at the Omaha Zoo today. Cool place, lots of exhibits, and very big. Of all things, I think the kids liked the train ride the best. Good weather - overcast and about 65 degrees.

It rained back home on and off throughout the day. The court was pretty slick, so we just shot around and played some HORSE.

COLD!!! I don't know what the water temp was today, but it couldn't have been above 60. The air temp was about 60 as well. It was very cold getting in the water at first, but we adjusted with time. The wetsuits made a huge difference. We swam around buoys that we are estimating to be about 200m each way. 4 times down and back makes for roughly a mile. After each lap, we stopped to talk about how it went and what we could do better.

Nice ride around Big Creek. Mostly easy going, but we did do some brief accelerations, including a hard burnout for the last 3/4 of a mile.

Thanks for the workout today, Tyler. We'll do it again sometime, hopefully soon.

Tuesday - May 27

First I was going to ride in the morning, but it was raining. Then I was going to try to get to the Bell Center for some drillwork today. That didn't work out though, as I saw 34 patients on the first day back from a holiday. I then thought about setting up the trainer in the basement for a 45 minute ride or so, but I'm too lazy at 10PM. In the grand scheme of things, what's one missed workout going to matter? Besides, my knee will probably thank me for the day off.

Forgot to add these. Played some HORSE, shot some 3's, messed around with the kids, etc. Also went for a walk with the family.

Planned day off. Knee is a little sore, as are the rest of my legs, so I'm not worrying about it too much.

Pre- and post-run stretching.

Back in business...I hope. I started out running outside on a muggy night, about 84 degrees and humid. It was the first "warm" day of the year. I got about a mile into the run, and the lighting and hail started coming down, so I tucked tail and ran back home. I only got 1.26 miles done outside. So I headed to the basement and hopped on the treadmill as quickly as possible to finish up with another 3.75 miles. I should have stopped it at 3.74, but oh well. And I put the treadmill at 1 degree so it would simulate outside running. Here are my splits: 6:58 7:06 7:13 7:14 7:02 The knee feels a little sore after the run, but it's mostly in the muscles. I'm telling myself that any soreness I have is muscular, based on the MRI. So everything is a go for now, and as always, we'll see how I feel tomorrow.
