Disgustingly hot today with the heat index touching 110. Did you know that in places with low humidity (desert, mountains, etc.), the heat index can actually be lower than the real temperature? I don't think I've ever experienced that. Whenever I hear the heat index mentioned, I always think to myself, "I'll be the judge of that," as if I can tell the difference better than the research. Anyway, I was able to get out in the evening when the heat index was a mere 95. In all honesty, it's not nearly as bad to ride in these conditions as it is to run in them. My goal was a nice 45-60 minute ride, keeping it nice and easy. I want to save my legs for later in the week. I kept my HR in the 120's almost the whole time. This made for a very pleasant ride, despite the temperature. I'm planning to hit the pool tomorrow, then go for a nice, long ride on Wednesday. Possibly 40-50 miles? depending on the conditions, how I'm feeling, etc. On the health front, I got another ortho appt. for Friday. We'll see what new news I have then.

Fairly solid ride today. I wasn't going too hard, but I did have my eye on the 21 MPH mark, so I hit that easily enough. Normally, this would have only earned a 3 rating, but I gave myself a 4 just for getting out and riding, as I was feeling a lack of motivation today.

I almost ran into some idiot on a lawn tractor who was backing into the street without looking. I could see it coming, and I was able to stop in time. It figures though, he was about 65 years old and about 280 pounds, so he probably didn't have the first idea about "cardio."

I think I might be able to use the lack of running as an opportunity to do more biking. Maybe I can ride 4-5 times a week now, now that I don't have to concern myself with saving days for running. 4-5 rides, plus 2-3 swims will be just as good as any other regimen I've done.

That's it. I'm done. It shouldn't be painful to run, and I just can't force myself to do it anymore. I can't run hard, and even the slow running hurts every step of the way. Well, literally every other step.

No more races for me until I get my knee figured out. I mean, I'm down to running 3 miles a week, and I can't even keep that up. I'll still keep up with the biking and swimming. I'm going to get another appointment with ortho, and hopefully we can really get a definitive answer.

This was not ideal conditions for basketball as it was about 85 degrees and it must have been 100% humidity. We were drenched when we were done. I didn't play particularly well either. It was still fun, though.

Easy ride in the morning. I even wore a loose fitting shirt to remind myself to take it easy today. Of course, in the last few miles, I didn't listen to myself, as I pushed hard to get to a 20 average. But that's OK, I was only riding hard for maybe 10 minutes or so. Nice morning for a ride.
