I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this. Bottom line, I shouldn't have been racing today. I thought I was feeling well enough to give it a shot, and when I got to the course, I thought I was feeling better. But about 200m into the swim, I knew I was in trouble. I was having a hard time breathing with my throat swollen. On the bike, I felt pretty good to be in the air again. The course was very hilly, and every time I tried to switch to my small ring, the chain fell off. One time I had to stop and get off to put it back on, which must have cost me two minutes. I didn't think it took me that long, but you know how it goes in a situation like that. My bike computer had me at 21.7 MPH when I arrived back at transition, which would be my pace if I was 2 minutes faster (it stops automatically when the bike stops). And the run was agony. I felt like I was barely faster than walking. My throat was killing at that point, so I couldn't even drink water. My run pace is embarrassing. When I got home, I looked in my mouth again, and I have about 15 small ulcers on the back of my throat, meaning I have herpangina, in addition to the (tested) strep I have. I feel like crap this afternoon. I haven't been able to do the other family stuff I would normally been doing. Racing today was a bad decision.

Strep throat. I would list myself as questionable for racing tomorrow.

Great timing here, as I woke up with a sore throat and feeling achey. I'm going to try to rest up the next 2 days and see if I can get over this summer cold before Sunday.

Cleaned my bike chain before heading out today. Then I decided I was going to ride hard. There was an average (for this time of year) wind out of the NE. I was riding hard, but not full effort by any means.
Barring any mechanical failures, I am expecting a pretty strong bike leg on Sunday at Copper Creek. I'm not so confident about the swim and run, but we'll see.
