Wind had not died down from last nite. I slept so well I never heard it this morning, until I went outside to run. I felt slow and it shows. 48min on the balls of my feet, probably has something to do with my slower speed. Calves are toast, look forward to swimming tonite.

Swiss/Medicine ball workout

Running on the balls of my feet has forced my calve muscles to either get stronger or die...so far I think they are getting stronger. The knee position during foot strike is very important when running this way - you need to have a soft, bent knee. No pain or discomfort when running this way, however when the calves get tired and I need to revert to "mashing" (new running term used to describe flat-footed or heel-first foot strike) again, the knees take a pounding. This wind is crazy, I was kind of hoping it would blow up a tornado, it would be much easier to run - I'd also have twister experience just like the Geez!! When I moved here from the wind blown desert known as Nebraska I expected it to be hot and muggy, like I remember from my childhood days spent at Grandma's house in Waverly, Mo. There certainly hasn't been as much wind here, but the last couple days have been aweful. I'm not going to let it get me down, I'm not going to fight it, I'm just going curse it. If I autibly curse the wind am I certifiably crazy? Gosh, I hope so. Planned: AM run; PM yoga, swim, swiss/medicine ball workout

I have never riden in wind like this, 20+ sustained, 40mph gusts. About got slammed 3 times with the cross wind on 175th. Ride out was tough, but not as bad as I was expecting. Loved the ride home. That which does not kill me, makes me stronger...this wasn't a quality ride though.

Finally got the "offical" results from the 5mi run two weekend ago, race report here: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=78655 Got the oil changed in my car yesterday before work from the Valvoline across the street. Bunch of young guys working in there. My "check tire pressure" light came on on my drive to work, I thought this was odd as they just checked the tire pressure. So, I figured they must have added a little air and this set of the internal "alarm". Didn't check the pressure until after work when I was gas'ing up at the station by work. My tires usually run 30PSI, the back two were 30 and 32, the front two were 28 and 45 - I couldn't believe it. They also put down the current mileage as when I my next scheduled oil change should be on the little reminder sticker. Last week I took my wife's car in and they screwd up her reminder sticker too, putting 5,000mi on conventional oil (this is probably ok, but it is a mistake). Needless to say, someone is not getting my business any more and getting a phone call this afternoon - who knows what other details they aren't paying attention to. This is one thing I really miss about my small hometown, pop. 1000!! They pick up your car at work, change the oil, do a great job of service, don't sell you anything you don't need and then return your car. Ah, the good life!! Have some tightness in my calves from running on the balls of my feet yesterday. It's not bad and much less intense than the first time I tried this, so I figure I'm making progress striking on the front of my foot. I do like the fact running this way makes me take shorter strides, but increases cadence. Is there a distinction between soreness and tightness? I associate soreness with pain/fatigue and tightness as more of a "I'll get over it during my next workout". Or are soreness and tightness closely related and the I-word (injury) should be used pain/fatigue? Can someone sort this out? Planned: PM yoga, 2hr bike ride
