What a great experience yesterday. I drove around the little town of Ord looking for some type of rec center or gym and found a little place in a restored old building probably built at the turn of the last century, the "Bohemian Hall". Went to the door and the place was locked. The marquee on the north side of the build had a phone number so I called and a nice lady answered. I asked if the place was open, she said she would be down in a minute and open it up. When she got there I said I just needed a place to shower quick before a meeting later that nite. I asked if I could just buy a day pass. She said there was no sense in paying to use her shower. How about that service!? And her gym was in immaculate condition. You just don't run into those types in the city. Say what you want about the conveniences of the city. I would be fortunate to call myself a resident of rural America. I miss home.
Earlier in the day I was in an even smaller town (Primrose, pop. 243) addressing a group of farmers. I arrived early and the building I was suppose to have the meeting in was unlocked and no one in it, just a note saying to leave the chairs and tables set up because another group would be using them later in the week. Most people in my hometown leave their doors (home and car) unlocked. I still miss home.
