Morning run around hotel. The race is going to be a hot one!

Athlete check in and expo.  Took my bike to tech support.  I didn't even notice, but the part above the fork is completely shattered.  Nice.  My brakes and cables are not held in place.  Tech guys said they would see what they can do.  I called Doug at BikeWise in Oxford (my hero) and he is having Trek ship the part to my hotel.  I just hope it arrives in time!  Bike and gear check in ends at 3PM tomorrow.  They are overnighting the part. It is always something!!  :-(

Went to the grocery store for supplies and will attend the athlete dinner and meeting tonight.

Ironman Texas #342.  Ready!

Travel day.

Arrived in Houston.  Bike is together, but is making a bit of a noise.  I will take it to the expo and have it checked out tomorrow.  The San Diego job contacted me today and it is a go.  I am moving to San Diego. Surprised  WOW!!!!  Things are going to move fast once I am home.  I am putting it all out of my mind until after the race.  I am thankful the decision is officially made before race day.

The job drama continues........  I declined the San Diego offer and later yesterday afternoon they came back and offered me more money.  Enough to make the salary equal to what I make here in Cincy.  It is a grant so not sure how they are working the budget. Hummm.  Of course the cost of living in San Diego is so much more expensive, but I think I can do it on this.  It will be tight, but possible.  CRAP!  Now what?!?!?  I emailed Tucson (University of AZ) and let them know that I need a firm offer with salary, benefits, start date, etc.  Looks like this may be drug out a few more days........ i really do NOT need this stress before a big race.

So I heard back from the University of AZ late this afternoon.  The job will start in August.  Although the surgeon told me I would be given relocation expenses, HR will not provide this for the type of research position.  Not good.  Also, the salary the surgeon stated me will be lower due to the pay levels in hospital/university.  I work with surgeons so I am aware that they often to not fully understand the policies.  This is why I really wanted to talk with the HR rep.  Knowing this information, I do not feel guilty accepting another offer.  I informed the San Diego job that if they can approve the higher salary and relocation expenses paid, I am in.  Yes, let's hope this goes through and I can be on my way to San Diego!  I am very happy with this decision.  I still plan to go on the Dallas interview next Thursday...just in case.  Oh, I had a phone interview today for a job in Wilmington, NC.  Interesting and challenging position, but I am not sure it is the best match for me.  They said they would like to have a second with interview with me and some additional management and will be in contact.  I will see the status of other things before this occurs.

Race week!

I had a good talk this weekend with Mario (in San Diego) about the job offer in San Diego.  He helped me review expenses, housing options, etc.  Due to the 10% salary cut and the 30% increase cost of living, this job is not going to work.  I do not want to be living on credit cards every month.  My car is going to need to be replaced soon and that will be another expense added to the budget.  I REALLY liked this job and was trying to make it work, but I need to be realistic and think about my financial future.  I am going to make the call today and officially decline the offer.  Although this is going to be tough to do, I feel better and am at peace with the decision.
