Great swim for me. The swim start was about what I expected. Lots of contact. Had to literally fight for position.
Bike was about what I expected. Slowed a little on the second loop but I did that purposely during the last climb up to Lake Placid as I started thinking about the run. There is also more drafting effect on the first loop. Less on the second loop as things start to thin out. Stomach was cramping a good portion of the bike. I think I ate too much too soon. It didn't seem to impact my bike split though....but probably did impact my run.
The run started off great. Settled in to a nice pace after a couple miles. First 8 miles were smooth. Stomach was cramping up a bit but nothing too bad. First run back into town felt great. 1:41 for first 13.1 miles. Started to lose it at mile 18. Couldn't stomach any more gels. Switched to coke. Started walking aid stations after mile 20. Last few miles were in the 10-11 minute range. Probably lost 10-15 minutes in the last 6-8 miles. I know I can run better than this. Just didn't quite work out.
T1: 6:12
T2: 2:22
Overall time was 10:20:16. If you asked me before the race, I would have predicted around 10:10. So I was pretty close and probably would have hit that mark had I not crashed and burned the last 6-8 miles. I have some unfinished business on this course. I'll be back again and I think I can easily shave 10-15 minutes off this time. More details once I write a race report.
