He's gone 'The Distance'. Now what..?

FLAT TIRE DAY!
The plan was to do the whole trail, but I got a flat.
1. This happened at the furthest point from home.
2. These new rims are a bitch to work on. With the old ones I didn't even have to use the levers, now I seem to need vise grip, pliers, chisel, hammer etc.
3. Took the tire off, put a new one in and it leaks! I pinched the new tube with the levers... great. Btw, I carry 4 (yes FOUR) plastic tire levers, on these rims they just snap like a match.
4. Back to the old tube, patched it, put it on... and it leaks too! Shit! Now I'm out of luck, no more tubes! And I'm not pushing this thing for 18kms home. That's 3hrs!!!
5. Took the tube out and found another small hole! The thorn that punctured it went through the other side too. The holes are far apart, I need to put 2 patches on. No big deal, but it looks weak. Really weak.
6. The whole thing happened in a park where during the last storm the sewer overflowed forming a big pond full of shit. The smell was absolutely putrid.
7. Since it's warm and there's a 'pond' next to me, I have swarms of mosquitos biting my ass and back. I even swallowed some.
8. Tube finally works (half an hour later) and I'm headed home, but going through a patch of sand that turned out to be 2" deep (!) I lost it and wiped out. No biggie, no injuries and the bike is fine. I just feel like an idiot. Few people asked me if I was OK...
Well, comparing to what?
9. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!
10. I could take a picture of my ass, it looks hilarious covered with mosquito bites, (we had a good laugh at home), but let's just leave it. I better have some good coffee.

05:38 And another sleepless night. Going for a ride, not too long.
June 20
This was a 2hr run. Went North for 58 min, turned around and struggled back. It was humid and hot! After 1:15 had to mix it with walking a bit, couldn't see the point in this torture.
Had 1 bottle of water on the way out and 2 bottles of Gatorade on the way back...
I feel like whimp. It wasn't really that hot today, 85F and about 60% with no wind, according to the officials. Seemed much hotter though. Whatever it was, it took the heck out of me on that run. As I was coming back along the Ohio Street beach it was so tempting to go for a refreshing dip in that water. I think tomorrow will go for another short swim, I actually like swimming not in the pool. And that wetsuit is magic, you can just relax and cruise.

MTB commuting to the beach and later to the bakery. Long ride to get some bread again, but somehow it felt refreshing to ride through the city. Good to see lots of commuters on bikes too. They are usually the kind with tight jeans, messanger bag and fixie and go through all the red lights...
OWS at Ohio Beach, Lake Michigan. The water was freezing, as expected, below 60F for sure and pretty choppy. Didn't want to push the time in that temp since it was the first OWS this year. Besides, going downwind was fine, but comig back in that chop was a different story.
Got back just in time, there's another severe thunderstorm over the city now. I think Big Willie's gonna get it today (again).
----------
I'm thinking of taking a plunge today and doing OWS. The serious thunderstorm is almost over (kept us up all night). So I'm off to the lake. Tha plan is to ride to the bakery as well and come back along Milwaukee St, so it will take a looong time. DONE.
Ohio Street Beach.

Lunch run slow enough not to disturb the ankle.
It was really humid and hot and this slow pace actually felt right for the conditions.
5 usual sets with25lbs weights, pushups and situps.
It's strange, but this is about the time of the year when my motivation seems to be at a low point. I noticed it few times before, just when the weather gets actually good (not today... but in general) I really don't feel like doing much. Not that it matters much in my case, so far I have been maintaining a volume that I don't need for any other reason then feeling good about being able to maintain a certain volume. One day it will be turned into something more useful...
----------
Thunderstorm now. To go or not to go? No, it's raining more, forget it.

MTB commuting.
Lunchtime run in the rain. It started just when i left home and gradually intensified.
Didn't plan on any speed work, but ended up going faster the middle 5kms. When I was close to home, it looked I had a chance to do PB and sped up. Maybe next time, this 51' is hard to beat.
1. 2.5k 13:59
2. 2.5k 12:40
3. 2.5k 12:01
4. 2.5k 13:08
2+3= 24:41
The usual. Just this time it was like pulling teeth, the legs were sinking, low energy, I better have something to eat and a coffee before the swim next time.
