trainer

Figured out why yesterday's trainer ride was so easy with such a high speed - the tire was flat! Ha! Aired it up today. Much harder.

Swim
  • 42m 34s

  • 02m 07s /100 yards

Water was COLD today!

500 warm up in 10:32
250 pull buoy in 5:09
250 drills (1:36, 1:11, 1:19, 1:20, 1:10)
10 x 100 (2:00, 2:01, 2:00, 2:01, 2:02, 3:07, :59, 2:03, 2;04, 2:05)

My mind drifted on he 6th 100 and I ended up doing a 150, so on the next one I only did a 50. Started getting tired after that.

I was going to do a cool down after that, but while I was stopped at the wall a lady came in that has been talking to me and asking me a bunch of questions about tris. She had brought me some triathlon magnets. That was sweet of her. By the time I finished talking, I was freezing and decided to just go ahead and get out of the water.

I have the most awesome yoga teacher ever. She knew I raced this weekend, so she made tonights class a "stretch" class. It was just what I needed.

Did an easy spin on the trainer and easy jog on the treadmill to see how the legs felt.  Still a tiny bit sore, but not bad at all.  I think a swim tomorrow will do the legs good.

Race report is up
.  As hard as it was, I didn't really do any workouts yesterday.  I'm ready to get back at it today.

Took Roscoe for a walk.

Thanks for all the inspires and well wishes for my race yesterday.  Overall, I was very pleased as I got a new PR by about 25 minutes.  I will do a race report tonight, but here are some initial thoughts.

*Going off in the last swim wave of the day was mentally challenging.  Being in the last group of folks on the swim and bike was not fun.

Swim Thoughts
*My swim time was worse than I expected.  I was hoping to be around 45 minutes.
*I think being in the last swim wave affected me from the get go.
*The water was a little warmer than I expected and I actually got hot at one point during the swim.
*It seems like my form went out the window as I was focused soley on fighting the waves.
*As much as I love the wetsuit, I am not use to it yet and I think my arms got more tired than they would have had I not been wearing it.
*I need to get lots more practice in open water and with the wetsuit before Florida.
*I was very happy to pass a few yellow and red swim caps from waves ahead of me.  I knew at that point I would not be the last one out of the water.

Bike Thoughts
*I knew I would take it easy getting through Moody Gardens and out to the Seawall and that's what I did.
*Once I hit the Seawall I got in a comfortable pace.  I knew wind would be a factor and didn't want to blow myself up on the bike.
*Driving the bike course before the race is good for me as mentally I know where I am and what it to come and when I can start pushing.
*On the way out, I passed a lot of poeple and got passed by several people.
*On the way back in, I did a lot of passing and barely got passed.  yeah me
*Infinit seems to work
*I was successful in doing a bottle switch from the downtube to the rear bottle holder.  yeah me again
*I need to get my fit checked - I think my right cleat needs to be adjusted and I need to have them look at the position of my left aero pad.  It seems I am putting more stress on my left side and my left shoulder by the shoulder blade is getting REALLY tight.  After I crashed last year, I'm not sure they got the pad back in the right spot.
*I didn't have to stop and pee at mile 20 like I normally do.  In fact, I didn't stop to pee at all!

Run Thoughts
*Legs took a little bit of time to get in a grove, but felt pretty good right off the bike.
*After being at the back of the pack all day, it felt good to be passing men (all the men went off before all the women this morning in the swim) regardless of what lap they might have been on.
*Felt really strong on the run compared to past HIMs so I think I got my nutrition and pacing on the bike fairly accurate.
*Ran the first two laps without walking at all.  Walked only at the aid stations the last two laps and ran everything else.
*The heat did not bother me as it has in the past (although it was about 15 degrees cooler than my last 2 HIMs and there was a breeze)
*Felt a blister forming between my big toe and second toe on my left foot at the start of lap 3, but didn't let it get to me.

Like I said, overall I am very happy with the results from yesterday.

April 24

Up early to spectate at the Sprint and Olympic.  Was disappointed the swim was cancelled, but it was the right decision.  Took a nap before heading over to the BT lunch gathering.  After lunch, racked my bike and layed out my stuff for tomorrow.  Pasta for dinner and early to bed.

Swim
  • 21m 04s
  • 800.00 yards
  • 02m 38s /100 yards

**Distance is a total guess.

Great swim at Lake 288 with a bunch of other BTers. Kathy and Kevin G, Catwoman, Fattyfatfat and others. Swam a loop that was .35 miles in 12:25 and then out and back to a buoy in 8:40.

After swimming, ate lunch with Kathy, Kevin, Rene and Patrick. Got checked in, drove the course and got a free 10 minute massage on the neck. After driving the course, I'm excited that someone finally knows what a truly flat course is. Wind will be the issue.

Spectating Saturday morning at the sprint and olympic and then racing Sunday.

Good times.

Thanks for all the inspires! It will help keep me focused out on the race course.

April 22

Left work around noon to head to Galveston and get ready for the HIM on Sunday.
