Wahoo!!! They say that at some point as you age you will stop achieving overall PRs and will have to redefine what a PR is for you (such as a PR after age 40, etc). Well, that point hasn't arrived for me yet, because today I set a new PR for the marathon distance for me. My previous PR was 4:44:22 and that was achieved several years ago. I wasn't sure I'd ever beat that. This year I decided to try. I picked a high mileage plan to follow, my swimming and biking were non-existent and my run was my focus. It paid off. Not only did I set the PR, I ran every freaking step. Not one walk break the whole time. I even ran through the aid stations, perfecting the "grab the cup, squeeze together, drink". The temps could have been about 10 degrees cooler as it did get pretty hot toward the end, but overall a great race. Will do a full race report later. Splits are below.

Mile 1: 9:54
Mile 2: 9:58

Another short run on the lake path to keep the legs moving for tomorrow. Felt weird to only run 2 miles. :)

Went back to the expo where I got an autograph from Alex Morgan and Abby Wombach from the US Soccer team for my son.  He owes me.  Met up with a friend who lives in Chicago and then had lunch with her.  Not a lot of sightseeing today as I wanted to stay off the feet after standing in line for the autographs.  Early dinner and then some football watching before bed.

Went over to the Lake Shore Path for a short little run. Temps in the low 60s. Beautiful morning in Chicago for a run. The path is a wonderful place to run.

After the run I hit the expo briefly and then spent most of the day sightseeing and doing touristy stuff.  Did a tour of Wrigley Field.  That was REALLY cool.  I'd love to see a game there.  Also went to Sears Tower and stood on the ledge.

October 6

Getting ready to head to the airport and head to Chicago.  Looking forward to it.  Will do some sightseeing tomorrow, a little bit on Saturday and then race on Sunday.

I don't like finishing a race and not being signed up for another one to keep me motivated to train.  And, I just got my daughter's club volleyball tournament schedule.  Two of my favorite races do not conflict with volleyball, so I just signed up for them.  Yay!

October 4

Volleyball mom tonight.  Tough loss to Round Rock.  The girls didn't seem to have any energy or desire.  Oh well.  On the flip side, my son had a great game of football even though they loss.  He's in 8th grade on the B team and was the starting kicker.  He kicked a 45 yard kick off, a 42 yard kick off and 2 on-side kicks.  The 45 yard kick off went over everyone's heads.  :)  Proud of my kids - win, lose or draw.
