September 9

Volleyball game for Madison and then I made cookies for the tournament tomorrow.  Somehow I don't think cookies on in the training plan.

Run

I was hoping to run earlier and hoping to go further, but life gets in the way sometimes and the hip flexor area is still bothering me. Plus, I was extremely hungry, so I cut the run short and fixed dinner.

Treadmill run. Dalton had a soccer game this afternoon I had to be at after work and then Madison had high school open house and wanted me to go so she can get 10 points on a test in AP World History. Got home at 8:30 and got on the treadmill.

With all the fires around central Texas lately, the smoke over the city is awful.  You can smell it and you can see it.  I can't imagine what it's like closer to the fires.  The big fire is about 40 miles away.  The advice is to not exercise outside.

Sport
  • Yoga
  • 1h 00m

The volleyball games went quick enough that I was still able to make it to yoga which made me very happy. I really needed yoga tonight. My groin/hip flexor area was tight and yoga really helped stretch it out.

September 5

Not sure what or how to log today.  Got up early and went downtown to watch my uncle in the Austin Tri.  This was his first tri and unfortunately, he did not train for it.  He thought he could just go out and do the Olympic.  I have to say, he got it done, but it wasn't pretty.  I'm pretty sure he was the last one out of the water for the Olympic (he even got passed by the sprint distance athletes).  The bike portion took him a long time and he ran out of nutrition.  Most everyone was done and gone when he started the run.  I ended up "running" about 4 miles of the run with him to help keep him motivated to finish.  I was in my vibrams.  There was a lot of walking involved.  But, he finished.  And I think he learned his lesson and IF he does another one will hopefully train for it.

**updated**

Got up early again and got 6 miles in before heading back to the soccer fields. This mornings run definitely had cooler air, but very windy.

Came home after the morning soccer game to find smoke bellowing from fields not far from our neighborhood.  Throughout the course of the evening we would learn that our small town had 3 fires and Central Texas had MANY fires break out.  The fires are devastating and the winds are creating difficult conditions for firefighters.  We really need rain.

**updated**

Dare I say that I could actually feel hints of coolness in the air this morning. We still have a way to go, but it was a start. I wasn't soaked in sweat after a mile.

Ran 9 feeling pretty good, but then did some run/walking the rest of the way. Not sure when or how, but I seemed to have an issue with my hip flexor/groin area. Need to figure that out asap.

Got done with the run in time to shower and eat and head to the soccer fields for my son's soccer tournament.  We were out in the sun all day, getting home around 5pm.
