June 21

Went back to the doctor today because the cough just won't go away. This time they took blood and urine and sent me to get a chest x-ray. I also have five prescription medications to take now. Hopefully this will work and I'll get some answers. Maybe next time they will listen the first time when I tell them how bad it is. Needless to say, I won't be getting on my bike tonight. Or running. Or swimming. No working out until I hear a yes or no on whether I have pneumonia or not.

Decided not to swim today. The cough just won't go away and I knew I wouldn't get much of a swim in. Not worth it to me to spend the drive time, etc for 20-30 minutes of a bad swim. I decided rest was better.

Slow run if you can call it that. Had to stop and walk a few times through the cough. I'm so ready for this to be gone.

Wanted to get some kind of swim in but took it easy. Cough is still acting up, so no set plan tonight. Hit the split button every 50. Swam some 50s, 100s and 150s.

***Race Report is Done on BT***

Was still a little worried this morning as I was still coughing before the swim, but I gave it a go and was pleased with my body and the results. I'll do more details later, but here is the summary:

Swim: 10:39 for 2:08/100

T1: 2:09

Bike: 44:56 for 18.7 mph

T2: 1:29

Run: 28:12 for 9:24 pace

Total. 1:27:27

Debated this morning whether I should just rest or try a ride. I decided to ride the tri course and see how I felt. The good news is that I averaged over 15mph and I really didn't push at all. I had a couple of cough spells but not bad. If the weather is calm tomorrow and i make it through the swim without a cough attck, I know I can finish. It may be slow, but I'll get it done. I think the run is where I'm going to have the issues with the cough.

Had a little breakdown this morning. I'm a competitive person. Always have been, always will be. I know I'm not fast and may never get on the podium but I always compete with myself for faster times. And, there are a few people who do the same races that I like to beat. Driving to the lake to ride this morning my logical side was saying its not worth it to push in the race tomorrow, but my emotional side was saying "your training has been good and it's only about an hour and a half that you have to push". I'm glad I did the ride because I know I can still do somewhat decent, but it just frustrates me to have gotten sick this week. Yes, better now than before IMAZ but it's still frustrating.

I had an hour "run" on the schedule and I wanted to see how my body would do. Let's just say if the meds or adrenaline don't kick in by Sunday morning, it may the slowest sprint tri I've ever done. I started off jogging very slow and it wasn't long at all before I had to walk. Jogged some more, walked some more and was doing ok until about 2.5 miles and then had a major cough fit. It wasn't fun. Walked the rest of the time, sometimes a speed walk and sometimes very slow. Not fun. Went to the store when I got done to get some more delsym. How many drugs can I pump into my body? Since my wave goes off at 8 sunday and the last wave is at 8:09, maybe I should make it a goal to come in last. People are going to look at me on my P2 with the race wheels going 10mph and wonder what's up. Come on meds, do your thing!
