Runs with Dogs
March 2
March 1
Got "volunteered" into taking the girls and a friend to the park, so I did loops around the play area and tried out my new clothes. Also the first time that I had run in daylight in months!
Run/walk ratio: 2:45/2:15

Walk pace: 15:54

Walk HR: 147
Not too shabby considering #1: I had run yesterday, and #2: at 81 degrees it was a good 40 degrees warmer than when I've usually been running.
11:30 PM - Nuts -- I forgot just how ennervating the heat here in Tucson can be -- even the heat on March 1. By the time that Ross got off for his gig, I was exhausted from the day and from running in the afternoon. So no hot date with the coach for this girl.
Went to the TriFest expo and scored a nice goody bag! The bag itself is a large cloth bag and inside were electrolyte samples, a swim cap, other ass't odds-n-ends and the Spinervals DVD of Mt. Lemmon and Gates Pass. Sad to say, I'll probably end up using it. However, one of these days, I'll do the real ride. Afterwords, went across the street and solved the clothing dilemma for the race but getting tri shorts, a tri top, and a support bra that is swimmable. Tried them out on the run this afternoon, will check them out on tonight's hot date with Coach Troy, and will hopefully get to go swimmy with them tomorrow.

Ok, so it's turned into a day off. Guess that's ok -- the last day off was over a week ago. I had to downsize my goal for Rock Swimming -- I was going to try to at least get in the 90% range, inspite of losing all that time when child #1 was sick. (I had originally hoped that I would smash through my goal). With the finger thing, I can't swimmy until it's got some good healing on it. Maybe Friday. So my goal for the month is now 35 minutes more than what I've done. If my finger is healed enough on Friday, then I'll go; if not, I'll have ended up in the low 90's which where I could have finished if not for this accident.
On the one hand, I'm disappointed that I couldn't do the full 8+ hours. I really wanted to have a very strong month swimming. Looking at the logs though, the challenge got me to have the best month swimming that I've had yet, and I actually swam more in Feb, in spite of it all, than I logged in 2007. (I did swim more than I logged, but I only joined BT in Sept., and swimmies were erratic there for awhile).
Today's "hit head against bricks" teaching moment:
Ouch, ouch, ouch! My favorite teacup sprouted a leak last night. When I was trying to show child #1 where the crack was (it was very thin and I was pulling on the cup to expose it a little), the cup cracked in half and sliced my index finger open. Took forever to stop the bleeding, and if I didn't have a bandaid on it right now, it probably would still be bleeding. Guess there's no swimmy for me for the next couple of days. :( :( :(

Below 14 mins/mile! (Ok, JUST below, but below nonetheless!) The first couple of run segments felt a little awkward; probably since I've been focusing on meeting the swim challenge and have missed a couple of runs. Next run will be at the 2:45/2:15 run/walk ratio!

Another star-lit swim. Time and laps are a little approximate. I had some trouble with the watch -- was going to do a split to catch how fast my regular swim is, but after a couple of laps, the watch looked like it had stopped. Turns out it hadn't, but I didn't figure that out until the drive home. I also may have done 50 yds more.
On a good note, I've been playing around with rotation, and my stroke count for 25 yds dropped from 23 to 21!
Opted out of running today -- I'm getting observed by a colleague first thing this AM and need to be less late than usual. Also going to try for swimmy this PM after the kids go to bed.
