Hope dies Last

February 13

REALLY tired of not getting any sleep with this shoulder.  The drugs are marginal at best and I don't like taking them.  Can't wait till Friday when I can get this taken care of.

That's all I got....probably for the day.

Well...It is official.

Surgery on Friday Feb. 19.  Start getting ready for Augusta on Sunday  Feb.21.....Yes...I'm taking Saturday off.....You got a problem with that?

Youngest son's 23 birthday today....Happy Birthday Mitch.  :)

February 10

Worked today for half a day.  Class on Excel....very nice...cool stuff...neat tricks.

Went by the Doctors office and talked to the nurse about surgery...earliest I could get is 2 weeks from this Thur/Fri. unless they have a cancellation.  Was hoping for sooner but it is what it is.

Thank you ALL so much for the notes and Inspires about the shoulder.  I typed the Sunday info on Monday morning and while under the influence of enough narcotics to get me 5-15 years on a Class III felony if they caught me.

I actually go to the Orthopedist TODAY..not yesterday.  The research I did yesterday would indicate that surgery is a definite possibility.  Most info stated that a separation of this nature requires surgical intervention if the person wants to regain "athletic" movement.  Well....DUH!!!

It feels much better today and the knot has reduced substantially on it's own.  Dr. GoodHands (my Chiro) looked at the x-ray last night and said, "holy, F*CK...that looks AWFUL".  Thanks Doc...you are so reassuring.

I am having some good feelings about this though, in that I don't believe I will require surgery and that maybe after some PT I can get back after it.....and as far as running goes...I am going to try and be back at that, by weeks end.

5:00 Update:  GOOD NEWS.....I'm having surgery.  Yep....That's good news and that's how I am looking at it.  Doc told me that with my lifestyle I would be back in his office within 6 months if I didn't go ahead and have this done...He said it was a very bad seperation and it would eventually be good but he said that would be about 8-10 years.  Well last time I checked I will be drawing Social Security (if there is any left) by then and I ain't waiting that long.

He told me that I "could" go ahead and run the marathon in March if I could tolerate the pain...won't know that till I run again the middle of next week.  He also said that if I went ahead and had it done now I could still make Augusta in Sept....that is why this is great news.  Positive attitude all the way and this is going to make me stronger and better equipped.

Keep the love and prayers coming my dear friends...they are surely helping.

Run
  • 2h 58m 30s
  • 15.97 miles
  • 11m 10s /Mi

At the river with E.P.

15.97 miles....trying to get 16 under 3 hours...should have paid more attention to where I was running than how fast I was going.  Tripped on a root...reverted to my gymnastics days and tucked for the tuck & roll.....landed on another root shoulder pops out, I tighten up and it goes back in...get up w/ BIG knot on the top of the shoulder joint.....3 hours in the ER = Dislocated A/C joint.  Possibly no running for 3 weeks.  Going to the orthopedist tomorrow and the ER doc talked like he might have to do a surgical reduction on the dislocation.  :(

That's all I got for now as I have some Really Good Ass-Kicking Drugs VERY HIGH QUALITY Pharmaceuticals that I must ingest in order to maintain my sanity.

We Shall See.
