Christoff's Frivolities

Felt weird during the ride. Got numb feeling in my arms... got cold in 77 degree weather. Felt like I needed to vomit... but also felt great at other times. I think it was lack of rest. Or maybe I am just all wacked... Don't answer that.

Who needs sleep right?? Woke up every half hour from 12:00-3:00am. Woke up again at 4:00 and changed the alarms to wake up later and not get the swim in. I am just exhausted. Ride tonight... may make it a brick.

Run
  • 1h 20m 43s
  • 9.60 miles
  • 08m 24s /Mi

Nice and temperate this morning. Some humidity but not stuffy. Run started off a little rough and had to make a pit stop around mile 5... Thankfully I run around in my neighborhood. I hope that I can keep this pace for the half-mary part of the HIM. It will be very dependant on temperature and pacing on the bike.

Bike
  • 1h 32m 16s
  • 29.43 miles
  • 19.14 Mi/hr

Wanted this to be an easy pace ride. I listened to the body... Watched the HRM... and was still able to push a really good pace. I don't know if it was the recovery week last week, the massage yesterday, or what, but I will take it.

If this can be what I see at the HIM I will be very, very pleased.

No dice on the swim. Storms rolling through with lightning... From previous experience... Pool would have been closed. Still hoping for a ride tonight... Chance of storms still... So it might be a trainer ride. Massage went well. It was nice but I think I have to do a deep tissue/deep pressure to really get the benefit.

July 21

Rest day... Race Report is up. Quads are a little sore... Blister on the pinky toe is really deep and doesn't seem to be water filled... Should make for another nice calus. Massage planned for tonight... First one ever so we will see how that goes. Plans for the week: Tue: Swim AM / short bike PM Wed: Long Run Thu: Swim AM / medium bike & run BRICK PM Fri: Medium Run Sat: Long Bike Sun: Fly out for week's vacation in Cancun!! The goal is to get the swims in... I need to get the swim fitness back in line. A month's worth of work should get me there.

Swim
  • 29m 18s
  • 1640.42 yards
  • 01m 46s /100 yards

Not a very good swim. Goggles came off going into the water and just would not seal... Then my HR strap stated falling off. It just did not start well and kinda threw me off

Run #1
  • 01m 22s
  • 0.13 miles
  • 10m 30s /Mi

Run to transition area

Bike
  • 1h 10m 01s
  • 25.68 miles
  • 22.00 Mi/hr

Add a two minute penalty for "illegal passing" which is absolute crap. Slow biker passing another bike not all the way to the right. Basically the racer being passed is in the middle of the road. Referee to the left of the passing racer. I am gaining on all of them. There is no road to pass. They all are not riding to the right. How about getting the passer and the referee for blocking??? Only open road is to the right. So am I supposed to slow down and wait? I guess so.

Rest of the ride was uneventful. I pushed too hard and stomach started yelling at me after the second gel. Slowed it down before the run.

Run #2
  • 51m 04s
  • 6.20 miles
  • 08m 14s /Mi

Stomach was mad coming off the bike. About mile 2 I started to feel a hot spot on my right pinky toe. Blister started really talking by mile 4.

Last mile was the fastest at 7:25

Overall... Race time: 2:34:34... Add 2:00 for the (bullshit) penalty... 2:36:34. It still was a really fun race and I am glad that I did it. Definately swim fitness is just not there... And I am just not a very fast runner... Pushing on the bike is not a good thing. The HIM pace needs to be limited to the 19mph range. Faster and harder than that and the tummy gets really mad. Good lessons learned. Also met David Tri's... Gave him a high five around mile 4. Nice guy and looked strong out there!

July 18

Run
  • 29m 07s
  • 3.20 miles
  • 09m 06s /Mi

Recovery run... Just took it very easy... Felt pretty good.

Swim
  • 28m 01s
  • 1600.00 yards
  • 01m 45s /100 yards

Morning swim... Just trying to get something in.

I am racing the Olympic distance this weekend. It will be my second ever and on a really flat course. Here is my projection... Lets hope it holds true S (1.5km): 25 (or ~1:30/100yrd) B (25mi): 1:10 (or ~21mph avg) R (10km): 48 (or ~7:45/mi) T1/2: 2 total Total: 2:25:00 Start is TT based by race number which will be fun. Olympic racers start first. Swim: The lake/pond last year was amazingly clear and only 2 degrees shy of being over for wetsuits. I don't have one so if it is over it may even out the field even more. If I can sight well and push I can hit the 1:30/100 mark on my own... but if I can find some legs to follow... that would be the best. Bike: The bike is very doable... I think I have that in me. Run: I don't know. I have been running longer and have no qualms about 6mi... I have been building endurance for the HIM and not been focused on speed at all... two 24min 5ks will be tough. If I have it in the first few miles I will push until I blow up... If I don't I will just run at what I want to pace for the HIM
