perch lake 2 mile swim - the first time i've ever 2 miles, ever! woo hoo!

up early, waiting for kelly (kelpeng) to pick me up. we have the perch lake swim today. still debating if i should stick with the 2 mile swim i registered for, or do the 1 miler instead. i've been sick the last week and haven't been in the water since my last tri, then again, i have been able to do mile swims w/ no training what so ever, so the 2 miler would be interesting. either way, i'm viewing today as a training swim versus a race since i'm in no shape to compete today. ate some chocolate ice cream before bed and hardly slept a wink! coffee is a must this morning!

ugh! i can honestly say this was one of the most painful runs of my life. first 2 miles were fine. tried to hold back a bit because i've been sick all week, but then i felt good and wanted to go fast because i've been sick all week! hit a red light, and as soon as i stopped, i felt like i was going to hurl. it was humid w/ no breeze, and i didn't have water. i walked a bit and took deep breaths until the feeling passed and then ran. after a few blocks i had the worst side ache i've ever had - EVER. thought i was going to cry, or puke, or both. didn't bring my cell phone since i was running so close to home, but if i had it, i would have called bill to come pick me up (2 miles from home!). ended up using visualization from child birth (breathe in, wrap the pain in a ball, now blow it away - whoooosh). it actually worked really well, but i still had to alternate walking the rest of the way home. first 2 miles in about 17 minutes; last 2 in 24! feel fine now. did some stretching and drank water (slowly). ugh. my next run will be better.

thanks for all the inspire mes! :) feeling better today. woke up yesterday with a very sore throat and a fever. bill ended up taking the day off to help with the girls so that i could get some extra sleep. actually napped and finished reading harry potter & the goblet of fire for the 3rd time. have moved on to the order of the pheonix. the only time i seem to make time to read is when i'm sick. anyway, feeling much better today. may do a short run tonight if its not raining. perch lake swim is tomorrow. i'm still going, but i may cut back and do the mile instead of the 2 mile swim.

still a bit under the weather. taking extra vit c, water, etc. hard to get extra rest since the girls are also sick and fi is nursing a lot at night, but we've had a couple quiet days at home at least. really hope i can get to the pool before my race this weekend!
