Better each year

Wow... this race, this venue... it's all awesome! Today was Tri Mommy's first tri since getting pregnant with Ryan. She did great!
Couldn't find the workout entry for jockstrapping, but I ran all over the course taking pictures of Beth during the race. Got soaked to the bone because of the torrential downpour that came in in the later stages of the morning races. Took all of about 5-7sec before I was absolutely drenched. (Beth was about halfway through the run when it hit.) It was at least a couple of miles (since I ran out to to the BT booth and back, too, to say hi to everyone). Unfortunately, I was in my sandals, and ended up rubbing skin off in a couple of places at the top of the base of my big toe. Hopefully it won't have any impact on my race tomorrow. Yikes!
Overheard quote of the day: "I never thought I'd say I saw helmets floating out of transiation."
After a nice afternoon nap, we headed out to the BT beachhouse in the afternoon and hung out with the group for a bit. (enjoying the American Gladiator marathon, of all things. :) ) Dinner was with Joe (FreeSwimmingFish), Bonnie (Mrs Fish), John (jcagg90), Robert (Tag), Lisa (lisaj1), and Randy (S2K_Randy), plus the other table that included Derek (DerekL) and Laurie (Tri_it_cajun_style), Steve (Doughboy), Marcy (Dodgersmom)... (ooh I'm sure I forgot some... sorry!!) to the Guido's italian restraunt on 6th and the seawall. A memorable evening that won't soon be forgotten. In the good way because of the group that was there. (In the bad way, because we waited over two hours to get our food, restaurant ran out of certain pastas, and we all demanded the checks be reduced or just walked out on part of the bill. What a crazy mess.)

It was a heck of a drive out of Dallas last night. Some of those thunderstorms were really intense. But we made it to Houston and will be headed to Galveston this afternoon.
I thought about going for a little run today, but my left quad is tight, so I think I'll just stretch it instead.
Almost race day! Still haven't been able to get in touch with anyone about tickets for the pasta dinner tonight. :(

Indoor, morning. trainer ride
I didn't have any intention to really taper for this weekend's race, but you wouldn't know it looking at my logs. I stayed up late last night trying to install the wheel cover from the old bike on the new one. I was told by the manufacturer that it should fit the new wheel, but it was much more difficult than I expected. So, in the end, I'm not certain it's the right cover for this wheel. That, plus the fact that I didn't have a valve adapter handy to pump it up once installed led me to take it back off.
So it looks like I'll be racing without the wheel cover this weekend. Add to that the fact that I haven't picked up an aero bottle (so I only have one bottle for fluids) and I don't have a computer for the bike yet (no idea on speed, cadence, or distance remaining). To top it off, I realized that morning that my last Olympic was last year's Ironhead in mid-summer, and I don't think I've be giving the distance the respect it deserves. I'm starting to feel less-than-confident about how this race will turn out.
Ok, enough with that. On the plus side, I did finally get the 16mm dropout screws so that my rear tire isn't so close to the cutout that even stray road dirt is going to jam the wheel. :)
This morning's workout was short b/c I got to bed late last night. But after futzing with the rear wheel, I definitely wanted to make sure everything was still working. Wwish I had a little more sleep, though, since we're headed down to Houston tonight and it's a looong drive if you're already tired.

Run: Run TT - KEY WORKOUT
House to Russell Creek and back. Around block.
Supposed to be a fitness assessment. Did warmup then started the TT. Lap button at 10min. About 1/2 way through the TT, I decided I really didn't need to crush myself with a race this weekend, so I backed off some. Still had a pretty good time overall, though.
