Race time 5:39:21.  This is only my third HIM and my first one was only six weeks ago, but I PRd in all three legs today with a 19minute overall PR.

Very happy with my day.  Now a few days of recovery stuff then its time to get serious about Vineman.

Choptank river.
It wasn't quite as choppy as yesterday, maybe tomorrow will be even smoother.
Went to first turn bouy, made the turn to feel the current/waves and turned around and came back. Totally guessing at the distance.

Got stung by jellyfish on my ankles that is a first for me, I've never swam with the jellies before. When I heard they were in the water it made the decision to go with the full wetsuit a no-brainer. Only hands, ankles, feet and face are exposed. Since I'm in the last group to start tomorrow I'm hoping they will all be scaird off by then.

Felt relatively comfortable in the water, was very glad that I made myself get in.
Concentration for tomorrow will be on kicking straight and from the hips.

I knew that this water is brackish but was surprised at just how salty it tasted. Brown, murky, some seaweed, not exactly the kind of stuff I like but it would be hard to do this in a pool.

Not quite sure how to explain how the legs felt today. They weren't fiesty and ready to get it on, but they responded OK when I put it up to race pace for a couple of quick spurts. More concerned about how I felt aerobically than how the legs felt.
Loosened the laces in the Mizounos and they felt much better.

Would have done the alternating bike/run workout but someone else was on the TM. Still not feeling quite right so just kept it short and easy.

Ft. Detrick pool with sleeveless wetsuit.
Heater is on and the pool was 76 this morning. Perfect for me to wear the sleeveless wetsuit which is what I'm thinking I'll wear for Eagleman.

Needed 2500 pretty much continous swim.

Did what I thought was a mile but counted wrong and had 1650 meters. in 35:17 (1:57 per 100 yards) Mile time was 34:14!!!

Then I swam the last 1000, gave myself permission to do this as 2x500 but after the first 500 decided to just keep going. Did an extra 50 at the end just in case I had counted wrong somewhere, certainly wouldn't want to be short and being over is always good.

Nice work this morning. Getting much more comfortable with the longer sets.

Good news is the heater has been replaced, bad news is it ran all day yesterday and last night and the water this morning was still 70*.

10x50 avg 56 on 15"RI (normally I can't do 56 for 50 yards let alone 50 meters!!)
Swim 500 10:06 avg 1:50 per 100 yards. I don't know what my previous best was for 500m but I do know that this time pretty much blows it away.

Maybe the pool being cold and all this swimming in the wetsuit was exactly what I needed. We'll see how things go when the pool gets warm and I start swimming again w/out it.

What a difference a day makes. Greg and I were the only ones in the pool and there was an empty lane btwn us. During my last 500 I noticed that I was pacing with him and it nearly freaked me out. I had to say just relax and go with it. How cool is that.
