Expo time.
I got a cool running cap and new bike gloves with Ironman logo. I know, I know..., profanation of the name, but they look and fit good. The tshirt this year is worse than last year's, the color, prints etc look cheap.
The thing that impressed me the most was a titanium bike you can take apart and put in the suitcase. Not the lightest one there, but looked awesome.

Managed to find a break in the rain, but got wet anyway on the way back.
This was not timed, just a run to see how the legs feel.
Unfortunately the knees still hurt after that fall and that takes the fun away from running.
Raining this morning and I'm not about to get wet.

Tis is only the actual swim part, the offficial time will also include running to the transition mat, in my case 3:15.
This part was awesome, improved by 4 minutes over the last year's time in spit of pretty strong Northerly wind.
This was as much as I could do today, again, improvement over last year's run of 3min. Not bad for me.
These are net SBR times, no transitions. My time overall was 3:04 which was better than last year's by 7 minutes. So I'm happy, the goal was met and I'm alive, but tired.
I will do a proper RR, for now this is the race story in short.
Got up at 3:30 after not sleeping well, went down to pick up my brother at 4:15, we rode together in the pitch dark to the race to join 8 000 others pushing their bikes the same direction. Epic, what can I say.
Cold as hell, windy and looked we were going to get wet too. Set up the bikes and waited for the start till 8:30 or so.
Sun came up, but didn't get warm. We were sitting in sweaters, jackets, long pants and it was still cold...
Off we went, crowded as hell, more than last year, very murky water, constantly hitting others and being hit too. Crazy swim.
They pulled us out of the water and off we ran to the T1.
Quick change, on the bikes, up the ramp and we're cruising. Tons of people again. Slow, fast and in between. Lots of drafting too, mostly not intentional. One guy cracked me up, after sitting on my wheel for 10 min passed me and asked if I want to form a peloton!!! I thought he was kidding at first, but no, he just got to the next guy and asked the same question and started hanging on to him. No marshalls, nada, nobody cared.
Downwind was real fun, fast and passing more people than upwind.
(Just did a rough calc on the ave speed both ways and it turned out going North it was 23km/hr and going downwind South it was 37km/hr!!! Bloody hell, Bopper speed...)
Finally the last ramp, on the brakes and T2. Pretty quick change and off to the run. Legs felt fine, but was overall tired and the left knee was hurting still after that fall. The longer I ran the more it hurt...
No stopping at all, not even for a drink, carried my own bottle and stayed in 'the zone'. Lots of people were walking, some fast ones were flying by.
Finally the finish! Thousands of spectators, cowbells etc. Picked up the medal, bananas and that was the end of it.
Of course one would have to be there to appreciate the scene, all those people, great organization, post race party etc.
Called my wife who was there, waited for my brother (for 45min this time - great improvement for him) and walked to pick up the bikes.
