Began the day by waking up at 5:00 AM. Took a shower and ate a banana and a bagel. Walked about a mile to the race. Legs felt fresh with a little calf tightness. Didn't warm-up as much as we should've but still felt good. The start coral area filled up fast so we had to jump some fences to get to our corral. Took about 2 minutes to get to the start line. The first few miles were slow because there were so many people. After mile 2 or so John and I picked up the pace and started hitting sub 7:30/miles. Started experiencing some calf tightness but it wasn't impacting my running, no pain. Starting feeling pain in my shin (tightness) around mile 10. Finished the 13.1 in 1:39. Felt good but the sun was coming out and I had bad chafing of my nipple. John started pulling away around mile 16. Decided to stay back and maintain my pace. Began feeling groin and hip pain around that time as well. Took 3 hammer gels total. Stomach began feeling upset around mile 20. Stopped drinking gatorade. Wanted to pick up the pace at mile 22, but was starting to bonk and the sun was out in full force. Volunteers and others cheering kept me running. Really wanted to walk but I'm glad I didn't. At mile 24 there were more people cheering at the Nike Cheer Zone and pushed me to go faster. Didn't finish as hard as I'd like because the last 800 meters was somewhat up hill and I didn't have much left in the tank. Finished as strong as I could. Legs were very sore when I started walking after finishing. If I were to do it again, I would taper better and choose a plan that has more distance per week.
