If you've got an open cut stay out of the pool.

When it's scabbed over for a few days then consider getting back in.

I agree, it's not sanitary to be getting into the pool with a slice like that.  I recently had a mole removed that required stitches and wasn't allowed to swim until the stitches came out, about 9 days.

Thanks for the feedback. Not going in the pool ow swimming training. My Tri is in 12 days and i need to maintain constancies in my training. I guess my point is i am looking for a quick fix to this situation.

You are not going to gain or lose any fitness in 11 days. Give your foot time to heal. Swimming in open water with an open wound could be risky, you never know what's in the water.

Relax. Take care of your foot. You will be fine for your tri.

Even more reason not to go in.  If you are OW swimming you could cause yourself quite an infection in your foot.  You are not going to loose a significant amount of fitness in the next few days.

Can you have a medical professional super glue it, or similar?

I concur w/ the former "stay out of the water until it heals" club.  However, if you're determined to get in the water, try tegaderm.  It's a clear celophane like sheet that sticks over the wound, allows air passage but not moisture.  Place it over clean, dry skin.  You should be able to find it at the local pharmacy.

Keep swimming.  Dress it well.  Then a plastic bag ( biggest ziplock) and some good tape. It will be fine.

If it is salt water I say get on in there and don't even cover it.  As a kid we use to go into the water all the time cuts or not and salt water (assuming no major pollution where your at) helps wounds.  If it is not salt water....well, cover it.

I don't know about that. They close beaches all the time around here due to bacteria levels. I doubt  open water in New York is much cleaner.

I had a decent puncture wound and was told off the record by a physician friend to superglue it for a tri I had. I did just that and then applied duct tape around my wrist (where the wound was). It worked great. Now I would NOT have done that for training, but for a race it was worth it!

+1

Make sure you put "Tincture of Benzion" around the wound (not in it) and it will help to keep the semi-clusive dressing (tegaderm) on there while you are in the water.

Let us know how it works out for you.  Someone mentioned benzoin to keep it stuck.  It would help.
