Subject: Get Well Cards for Friends Injured in Boston

Folks, thanks to everyone for their well wishes for my friend injured in Boston.  It has truly helped me sort through this.

I'm sure there are more of you that might know someone that was hurt.  I wanted to provide an opportunity, for those of you that have asked, to send your well wishes directly to my friend.  Also, please feel free to list mailing addresses for other people injured so we can show them the BT love.  However, please exercise discretion before listing someone's home or hospital address.

My friend is Nicole.  She's had two surgeries so far and has two breaks in a leg, a broken ankle, soft tissue damage and a severed Achilles.  You may of seen the picture of her with red sleeves, sitting awkwardly, covered in blood essentially at ground zero of the blast.  It could have easily been worse.  Her sister, Erika, was also severely injured and had a partial leg amputation.  Nicole's husband, Michael, was also with them and luckily came away only with burns and lacerations.

Nicole swam D1 at an SEC school.  She is a personal trainer, triathlon coach and swim instructor.  She is an avid runner and previously qualified for Kona.  She loves dogs.  Most importantly, she is one of the sweetest people I know and never holds back a smile.

If you are so inclined, please drop her a note at the address below.  Thank you.

Goose- Your friend Nicole was in the local news up here in Baltimore today. Turns out her sister is a pre-school teacher in Towson and they were there together cheering on their mother in the race. Nicoles sister tragically lost her leg in the explosion. I will definately send them some well wishes and hopes of a speedy and full recovery.

Thank you so much to everyone.  I wanted to provide a brief update with the few details I have.  Unfortunately, Nicole is going in for her fourth surgery today.  I don't know if this means that things are going to plan or not.  I'm trying not to assume more surgery is necessarily a bad thing, but I'm really looking forward to some positive news from Boston.

Thank you all again.

It could just be they are tackling each injury in priority order.  Get the bones set first or something.  My daughter made a card and we sent it this morning.  Wishing her a speedy recovery and of course to her sister.  As you say it could have been a lot worse.  Certainly counting my blessings this week.

It could just be they are tackling each injury in priority order.

I have a doctor friend on staff at her hospital.  She said she spoke to an orthopedist treating many of the victims and that they are bringing many of the victims to surgery everyday to continue to clean out the wounds to try to prevent infection. This wasn't specific to my friend at all, but she said that the number of surgeries shouldn't necessarily be of additional concern.

Again, thank you all for your kind words.  Let's hope they get that SOB on the loose in Boston today.

Quick update: Nicole came out of yet another surgery today that lasted eight hours.  The report from her husband is that it went "excellent."  Positive news at last.

Here is a short article about Nicole and her work with para-athletes:
